Mission: Improbable seeks to power previously unmakeable games and answer previously unanswerable questions that lead to a better functioning world.

Improbable – Why Work For Us?

Improbable believes in a future where virtual worlds will augment human experience with experiences as meaningful, lasting and rich as the physical world.

We call this seismic shift in human experience the Multiversal Self.

Building new worlds is not about escapism. It's about opportunity and fulfilment through new experiences, vocations, economies and societies. Games will play a critical part in enabling these new worlds, connecting people to incredible moments and new communities.

Our first step to the Multiversal Self is to vastly increase the efficiency of building, operating and discovering multiplayer games.

New Worlds. New Thinking

Revolutionary types of simulation and virtual world can solve the world’s biggest problems. To create them, we must first create new technology and services that do not exist today.

We work and partner with exceptional people to create new realities. If you’re interested in pushing the boundaries of what’s possible, we want to hear from you.

Meaningful work. Exceptional People.

Improbable is a place for those who want to achieve extraordinary things and have a meaningful impact on the world. We hire exceptional people and foster a problem-solving culture that focuses on results. Our people are the driving force behind a long term, iterative innovation process, which we believe will shape the next decade in areas as diverse as entertainment, security and physical infrastructure.

We’re an internationally diverse team who care about building transformational technology for the future. We’re growing fast, and are always looking for the best people.

Improbable takes a hands-on approach to helping developers navigate the challenges of creating complex online games. Our talented Engineering and Production teams have diverse games industry backgrounds and are here to help customers create successful games with our tech.

Engineering is at the heart of Improbable. We believe that it takes exceptional people to distill complex problems into simple solutions. We are technology agnostic, seeking out the best tools to solve the challenges we face and willing to create tooling when none exists. We invest in those who invest in themselves; egoless self assessment and iterative improvement are at the core of every excellent engineer. If you share these values and want to tackle some of the industry's most difficult problems, we'd love to hear from you.

Different people, different insights

The best ideas are often the least expected and require new ways of thinking; that’s why our teams at Improbable are made up of an incredible range of talented people. We always look for diverse backgrounds and different perspectives in our teammates, and we’re proud to boast over twenty five different nationalities. Creating progressive technology requires radical individuals; we are committed not only to celebrating diversity of thought and identity, but growing it from the ground up.

Growing Women in Tech

We believe there is a fundamental problem with educating young women on the opportunities available in the tech industry. We actively sponsor and work with organisations like Code First: Girls and ALT: Ambitious Ladies in Tech to promote education and mentorship. These initiatives are critical to the long term diversity success within the tech industry.

Diversity of Thought

We’re committed to taking affirmative action towards diversity and believe strongly in equal opportunity. We make sure our recruitment processes cast a broad net, and consider individuals with diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and life experiences.

You Will Be Heard!

At Improbable, quality work always finds its way to the limelight. Our culture breeds openness, opinion and ideas so no matter who you are or where you come from, your voice will always be heard and your opportunities to progress are endless.

Becoming Improbable

We take a practical approach to hiring world class talent. We hire from all corners of the globe, and already have more than 25 different nationalities in the business. We move fast and have no red tape to negotiate. If it starts to look like we’re not right for each other, we’ll let you know quickly so that we don’t take up any more of your time. If things are going well, we will often tell you on the spot.

Even if you’re not actively looking for a position right now, we will always make time to chat if you’re intrigued to find out more about us. We’ll answer any question you’ve got about Improbable with honesty, so you can decide for yourself if Improbable is right for you. We always individually tailor our meetings to ensure you have the right information to make an informed decision.

Interview Process

  1. Talk to a Talent Partner. Trust us when we say they’re a cut above the rest. They know everything that goes on in our business and always have a seat at the table. They will focus on our most important attribute – fit – and remain with you through the whole process.
  2. Meet your Team. We respect your time, so we give you the option of doing the whole process in one day, or dividing it over two days. Occasionally we’ll ask you to do some homework, but your time on site will be spent understanding if you have the practical knowledge and approach that we’re looking for. You’ll also have lunch with us to give you a taste of our culture and wider company.
  3. Meet the Rest. Our teams are cross-functional and change frequently. We want to ensure you have the opportunity to meet other people, senior managers and founders. We take this opportunity to ensure that we’re a perfect fit for each other, and fill in any gaps that you may have about joining Improbable.

    Approves of CEO

I have been working at Improbable full-time (More than 3 years)

Very interesting technological challenges and a great engineering led culture. There is lots of variety and challenge and I am continually pushed to learn new things.

Incredibly smart people across the whole company.

There is currently a sense of excitement and rapid growth, particularly with opening the new offices around the world.

I would say the company has got past the growing pains of transitioning from being a very small startup to a mid-size tech company, particularly around HR processes, which have improved a lot.

In the Enterprise side of the business where I work (which is separate from the games side) we are building a completely new product which is an exciting point in the company's journey.

The CEO Herman is a charismatic and inspirational leader, and has now hired a lot of experienced senior leaders to balance his lack of previous experience.

There is still quite a lot of separation between the Enterprise and the games side of the company, transparency and communication between both sides could definitely improve.

The Enterprise business is still a lot less mature than the games side, and lacks experienced engineering managers.

    Advice to Management

Continue to recruit experienced managers and senior engineers, to balance the large amount of more junior employees.

    Community Manager Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in London, England

    Positive Experience
    Average Interview

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Improbable (London, England) in April 2018.

The interview process was relatively complex but for valid reasons. There was a video call with the recruiter and then I was invited on-site for a one to one interview just to get a feel for the job and get to know each other. The third step was a day on-site through numerous behavioural interviews and going through a task of example questions/queries.

I was quite fearful of the process only because I have never gone through something like that before but I can honestly say it was the most pleasant interview experience ever. The people I met were lovely and I got to speak to people during lunch to get a feel of the place. Sadly, I did not get the role but I can totally understand why they picked the other candidate. I can only hope another position comes up soon as the place and people are just FANTASTIC!
