Company Updates

  • Local initiatives are the driving force behind communities across the country. That’s why we’re encouraging our employees to show their support and volunteer.

From Thursday 26 September, Shell Energy Retail colleagues will have the opportunity to take one fully paid day away from work to get involved with programmes in their area.

The opportunities include supporting schools with career advice and interview preparation for students, helping out at local food banks, and acting as STEM ambassadors who work with children to encourage a more diverse workforce.

We're really pleased to be able to play our part in supporting local communities, and look forward to seeing our colleagues make a real impact.

  • We hold a monthly Tech Meet-up for anyone interested in Technology, Software Engineering, Data Science, Javascript, DevOps, Agile/Scrum, and Maker (RPi, Arduino etc). Our meet-ups are usually held on Thursday evenings at our Coventry office and are free to attend. You can find out details of upcoming topics and guest speakers via the below link. We hope to see you there!

Shell Energy Retail – Why Work For Us?

At Shell Energy, we believe that home energy matters.

Our home energy business was born out of Shell’s acquisition of First Utility in 2018. As an original challenger to the big energy suppliers, First Utility had a heritage of supplying great value energy and broadband to customers.

Shell Energy supplies 100% renewable electricity, as well as gas, smart home technology and broadband, to British homes.

We’re ambitious with a pace to match, and as part of one of the world’s largest companies, the opportunity and ability to push forward is greater than ever before.

We foster a culture of continuous improvement. Accountability matters, which means enabling transformation through autonomy to influence and see progress through.

Every day we work to provide an environment where all employees feel valued and included, and are able to nurture their talent as individuals and as part of a collaborative team.

A diverse and inclusive workplace, embedded in our principles of honesty, integrity and respect, brings together remarkable people and enables them to be themselves. At Shell Energy, you’ll be able to apply and develop your skills and knowledge as part of a collaborative team that’s helping to innovate.

We couldn’t reach our ambitions without our inspiring people. As we develop, playing our part in the transition towards a low-carbon future, we want our people to develop with us. Our people are our progress - people like you.

I have been working at Shell Energy Retail full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Modern technology stacks
    - Work from home at least 2 days a week with flexibility to do more/less or switch which days
    - Flexible hours allowing a better work/life balance (as a software engineer I do 8-4:30 for example)
    - Full canteen with hot/cold food at competitive rates with a reward scheme (Points that allow you to get free cake (amongst healthier options) and free hot drinks)
    - Nice offices (There is some woodland walks that you can go for a nice sunny lunchtime walk on)
    - Car park with ample spaces
    - Other staff members seem to have a long service history

    Cons

    - Driving around the school and Coventry roads can be a little nightmare-ish at certain times of the day - But that could apply to almost any office in the country!
