Pros

There is nothing worth mentioning

Cons

Terrible terrible management, there is no healthy work-life balance. You are expected to work overtime and on the weekends without pay. The workload is very very excessive. The company unrealistic goals and achievements are prioritised over employers mental health. There is no structure to the workplace and the type of work you are expected to do. Severely underpaid and very toxic work environment. If i could give 0 stars, i would.

We’re sorry to hear your feedback about your time with Aker Systems. You experienced a time when Aker is growing at a fast pace. We have invested in growing our management team and our workforce, we are also creating more structure for our teams. We are working closely with our teams to make sure that we’re aware of any teams that are going through an extremely busy period and how we can support them through this. We acknowledge that people will, at times, work late but this is not to set a precedent for anyone that is part of the team. We appreciate that the start-up/high growth environment isn’t for everyone but hearing feedback like this makes us continue to want to do better for our people. We truly believe there needs to be a healthy work/life balance and we have already made a start to look at how we can offer this, including but not limited to remote/hybrid working and flexible hours. If you would like to discuss your feedback further then we’d welcome the opportunity to listen, please email hr@akersystems.com

Pros

Can't think of any, sorry

Cons

They call Aker a "family", always wary of a company that thinks they can pretend you're a family, usually means they work you too hard for little gain In it for themselves, lining their own pockets Low salary, especially for loyalty Too top heavy (men) Meetings outside of working hours

Thank you for taking the time to leave us feedback, we are very sorry to hear you weren’t happy with your experience at Aker and we value you input on how we can improve in the future. We work hard to foster a family environment where we are committed to each other’s wellbeing, creating a culture of belonging and encouraging strong team relationships and collaboration. We continuously focus on making improvements to how we work and put our employee engagement at the heart of what we do. As a rapidly-scaling but small business, we all work hard to ensure our people feel seen and heard and we recognise their value and investment of time both through reward and recognition. If you would be open to having an impartial and confidential conversation to share more about your experience and how you feel we can improve, please contact HR@akersystems.com.

Pros

If you're looking for an opportunity to go up to that next level Aker Systems might be a great place for you to settle in, learn and grow. Upon getting security clearance you'll also have opportunities to work on critical services that benefit the UK. I believe the quality of leadership at the top of the organization is great, they are genuinely invested in the success of the company and sincere when it comes to ensuring staff satisfaction. Aker has a vision for itself which will likely see it grow substantially in the near future. The company is ambitious and the majority of colleagues here are very experienced, which helps when solving DevOps problems & blockers on a daily basis. Working from home full-time, as the company does not have offices, is a plus too - for me, it means more time with the kids when they come home from nursery. Decent pay/day rates too £££.

Cons

Given it's a relatively small and young company delivering high-profile work, the composition of teams will mostly be contractors who generally don't want to share information/skills that might put them out of a job (which is understandable). Sadly, I have also witnessed some appalling standards of leadership from certain team leads and aspects of culture from them that would be considered "toxic". It's a lottery when it comes to what team you're put into after joining - the majority of the team leads seem okay though - but there are bad apples. HR will always put the interests of the company ahead of genuine staff concerns - so you have been warned. My top tip for working at Aker is, if you start to see or feel a negative change towards you from your line manager, line up those interviews for your next role and have a plan for your possible exit because things can get ugly here pretty quickly once they decide they are going to push you out. I've seen maybe fifteen people get eased out. The "family" ethos the company refers to does not reflect objective reality and they would benefit from dropping repeated usage of the phrase. You won't be working on cutting-edge tech - some aspects of the DevOps work are dated or would benefit from a rethink.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us some feedback, we are very sorry to hear you weren’t happy with your experience at Aker and we value your input on how we can improve in the future. We have grown rapidly over the past 12 months and more than 80% of our people are employees. With this growth, we also invested heavily in growing and developing our management team. We understand the importance of clear and transparent communication within our organisation at all levels of the business. With our monthly virtual companywide meetings, twice annual in-person all hands, and a variety of social and wellbeing events, we strive to foster transparency, two-way communication and continue a strongly collaborative, positive culture. Our HR team actively works to ensure all of our employees are treated fairly, given clear guidance and communication, and have every opportunity to provide feedback and get the support they need to be successful. We invest a lot in our employees here at Aker by offering them access to an annual training allowance, a new hire remote set up allowance and an annual wellbeing allowance amongst other benefits. Clients contact Aker to help with enterprise data modernisation and we’re all working our roles towards a greater vision, one that helps the world become a more safe, secure place, and where we can help our clients do the heavy lifting to help them succeed. We recognise that we need to give people wider experience beyond their individual project so that they can appreciate the breadth of work and technology at Aker and that is something we’re actively working on. If you would like to share more about your experience and how you feel we can improve, please contact HR@akersystems.com.
