Nice company, more micromanagement now

Pros

Friendly people to work with. Good salary and expectations were fair

Cons

My immediate management was poor and things were often unclear. The US side are now more into micromanaging, checking in on emails and calls going out which I didn't enjoy.

Pros

Aldevron has some of the most caring, hard-working, and talented people you will ever have the chance to work with in your life - there is a con to this but I never go into work thinking how much I don't want to work with another person here. The materials being created are truly mind-blowing and change lives. In the right role, the schedule can be very flexible around necessary appointments for doctor, dentist, and other important things. Due to some of the many cons listed below, you will have a very tight knit group of people to commiserate with. Some people would call these friends but shared suffering isn't always a healthy friendship. I have worked with truly horrendous managers that would scream at you in a public forum at other companies. There are no managers within Aldevron that will treat you so horribly. Aldevron is growing at a rate that is unrivaled. This means massive chances to build new things - and also that things can be a real nightmare to keep up with.

Cons

I don't know which team I feel more sad for on any given day, the management team or the operations team doing the work. Management isn't given the proper budget to pay employees a competitive wage and employees are being over-worked due to the lack of other coworkers in the same department. There is literally no such thing as training for the key departments w/in MFG, QA, or QC. There are teammates who will do their best to help you get up to speed, but often they have limited experience and are just trying to get through the day. There is a lot of finger pointing that goes around Aldevron, but at the end of the day, the responsibility to lead and develop teams starts at the top levels of the organization. The Executive Level makes it very clear the top priority is hitting revenue numbers every month - so expect that every 4 weeks there will be a massive push to get things out the door and any other priorities cease to exist. The attendance/participation at this executive level of the organization is abysmal - there literally could not be less awareness of the issues within the company if they tried. Make sure you negotiate into any salary contract that raises are not pro-rated, otherwise you will have to wait two years to get your full one year-raise. Danaher acquired Aldevron in late 2021 and it's been a hit or miss experience. Danaher is putting Tremendous pressure on Aldevron to hit major growth targets to justify the absurd price tag they paid to acquire the company. This is a stressor on every piece of the organization and has only added to the double digit turnover rate. People here are incredibly willing to move mountains to get lots out the door to help patients get what they need quickly. The problem is that when you have to move a mountain every day, it burns people out constantly. It's not reasonable to keep this rate going forever and the reasoning is not getting through at the levels that control the purse strings and allow the org to do what needs to get done. The 401k plan is the worst I have ever seen. 3% with a 6 year vesting schedule?? A good 401k plan incentivizes people to stay long enough to get the full vesting schedule and drive value to the company. This is why 2-3 years is standard nowadays. Waiting 6 years to get 100% vesting at a 3% match is irrelevant to even consider from a retention perspective.

Pros

Easy interview, was easy to get hired. Flexible with taking time off, decently flexible schedule (I.e. there was never any specific time you had to be there, as long as you didn’t wander in so late that your coworkers were behind on the work.)

Cons

Low pay. However, the FM area is cheap to live in, so I found it manageable. My biggest concern was the clique atmosphere in the Reaearch Grade lab, ESPECIALLY downstream. Of course there were friendly and supportive coworkers to help offset that, but some days it was just too much. The bitter and clique-y attitudes of two of the guys in downstream eventually affected me to where I was filled with anxiety just walking into work every day. Management was aware of the horrible, demeaning attitude of one of those male coworkers, but did nothing, even though his attitude brought morale down a lot. I was always terrified to ask questions because sometimes, the guy with the worst attitude of the two of them, would overhear my question and inject his own input in, most of the time very rudely and sarcastically. He always took his horrible mood to work with him and had no problem bringing other people down that weren’t in his clique. I am shy and quiet so was ALWAYS perfectly nice to him and desperate to please him so he wouldn’t be so demeaning to me anymore and make me feel like an idiot for asking justified questions. In the end, this one male coworker was a BIG reason as to why I quit.
