Pros

Huh? Nothing at this point. Asian-owned low-end joint with manipulating, self-serving CSO in charge and a puppet CEO.

Cons

If you like spending your life with your head to the ground, with no prospect of ever enjoying your work or being rewarded for it, then by all means, work there! From the very beginning, the brightest employees were shamelessly taken advantage of by the directionless management (save IP department, which was great) and a passive board. In 2010, Schultz "took over" and forced out the remaining experienced research leaders with his infamous arrogance, business myopia and blatant favoritism. Only the politicians survived. One of his shifty buddies is now CSO, another is helping him fly his new plane at Calibr. All he managed to do was to transform the company into yet another extension of his lab, with no accountability from anyone in charge whatsoever (reminds anyone of the GNF story?). To top it all off, the final inept board failed to go through with an IPO when the company still had value to the market, and thought of nothing better than to sell it to China instead, ripping off common shareholders in the process (golden parachutes for the officers, naturally). The only product that will ever come out of this joint is the one co-developed with Lilly animal health, mark these words. ADC's are falling by the wayside already, and since Ambrx is heavily ADC-centered, it will not survive, once major pharma's start pulling out en-masse. Talk about miserable failure of a great idea, what a sad joke. Calibr may soon become the next Ambrx, with the same bunch of narcissistic incompetent posers in charge.

Pros

I have been a full-time employee with Ambrx for almost two years and with more hiring started recently I appreciate the energy from newer employees, but it doesn't last long.

Cons

Some employees have left the company so disturbed that those of us still working here worry they will come back to shoot the place up. Sexism has been and continues to be rampant at the company, and it has only gotten worse with new management. The scientific approach to the company's platform technology is random, poorly understood, poorly led, and mismanaged. The Chinese ownership has increased the lack of transparency, with more meetings being held in Chinese, and employees are encouraged to inform on one another. However bad it sounds, it's honestly worse.

Pros

There is nothing good about this company.

Cons

This company is a mess. The constant turnover stalls progress in the work and kills morale. Management does not address the issue. Do they know how to address the issue? People with no relevant experience are being hired or promoted. The product pipeline is nonexistent. Ambrx has always been known as a small company with large pharma bureaucracy.
