Pros

nice people and good location

Cons

worst managers EVER!!! I witnessed people being bullied, spoken to in a very intimidating way; once again the CEO is terrible, the senior management are just as bad... if you want to work for poor managers and a horrible company join this one... if you want to work someone where people are valued... AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Thank you for your candid comments. Sadly, I don't recognise this picture of our company. For the benefit of other visitors to this page we don't have a Product Owner/role or function in Ark Workplace Risk so I am unsure of the veracity of this post and have asked glassdoor to confirm if it was for another company.

Toxic work place

Pros

If you can work in Ark then you can work in anywhere

Cons

This is one of the most stressful and disrespectful places I've ever worked. The senior management fosters a toxic culture of exploiting people's time and resources without showing appreciation. Every time they receive negative reviews on Glassdoor, they merely wash over them without addressing any concerns they've identified. Plenty of consultants are leaving or have left because there is no meaning in working in this environment. Even in other teams within this company, a blame culture is prevalent. I would recommend thinking twice before joining this place, as what they promise will not be true once you've joined.

Pros

Fully remote with some site time depending on your role. High salary (however there is no consistency at all - you could be severely underpaid relative to others who do the same job or less, also the high salaries are inflated as thats the only way they can attract/keep staff). Work life balance can be good if you are able to push back against unrealistic programming and manage your time effectively.

Cons

In my experience, there is a significant disconnect between senior leadership and the technical realities of the work. This often manifests as client-facing teams promising delivery timelines and budgets without consulting the technical staff. Because some of these decision-makers appear to lack a deep understanding of fire or structural requirements, the resulting workloads are frequently unrealistic, leading to rushed outputs. Senior leadership seem more interested in peddling the flowery façade that is sold to the public, and do not understand what’s involved to produce the outputs. Enjoying the ride on the money wave, while surfing on the backs of consultants who are pressured to meet unrealistic goals, and then flapping and blaming consultants when these unrealistic goals are inevitably not met. The internal data management systems area a disorganised mess. Finding client information often requires significant internal "interrogation" of management, who are frequently unresponsive. This lack of clear communication can lead to gaps in reporting, for which the consultants are then unfairly penalized. QUOODA is a mess and time consuming to use with most consultants consistently complaining about it internally and avoiding using it whenever possible. There is a disconnect between all facets of the company leading to loss of information, and multiple cycles of rework which is highly inefficient. And the high staff turnover only adds to this with key knowledge being consistently lost. Furthermore, I have serious concerns regarding the company’s prioritization of profit over quality assurance. The increasing reliance on AI for tasks requiring nuanced professional judgment is, in my opinion, a risk to the high safety standards required by the Building Safety Act. In my view, the quality of consultancy work is currently hit-or-miss. Too often, deliverables consisted of 'recycled' text from prior reports, stitched together with little regard for logic or context. This trend of prioritizing volume over original thought highlights a systemic flaw in the Quality Assurance process that must be addressed. The business approach feels mismanaged, and reactive rather than proactive with the priority seeming being to make short term profits, with a key example being rounds of hiring followed by redundancies shortly after, suggest a clear lack of long-term strategic planning. Recent redundancies were attributed to a downturn in work, which is not surprising as I can imagine clients aren’t satisfied with some of the outputs which are the result of rushed work (because consultants don’t have the time they need) and incoherent regurgitated information with no actual understanding or critical thought. Finally, the internal culture is heavily siloed. The micromanaged nature of the programming leaves little room for collaboration, creating an "every man for himself" environment where senior management feels inaccessible and out of touch with the daily technical challenges. If you are a professional who values basic communication from all colleagues, good moral (particularly with more senior staff), competent colleagues, colleagues who don’t just palm of issues as “not their problem” with no productive suggestions, and most importantly stability - You should avoid working here in my opinion.

Pros

- Great software product with a huge amount of potential - Good reputation over 20 years means spinning up more Sales and Marketing is going smoothly - Real opportunities for growth of both scope and people - Full Senior Management suite now in place and working well as a team - Working from home during the current pandemic has really made us streamline communications - All Risk products are even more relevant now and not likely to be subject to a downturn based on economic conditions

Cons

- Large appetite for change can go too fast for some employees - we need to work on ensuring consistent results before the next improvement - Launching the next phase of growth needs to be done transparently with the whole team; top-down communications in the past have been too infrequent and we're changing that - Benefits and perks for employees need to be modernised, but this is fortunately part of the growth plan to improve culture as we expand

Pros

Since starting my journey with Ark nearly four years ago, I have learned so much about Residential/Building Safety and Management. One day is never the same, and every day brings challenges. However, with the support of Senior Management anything is possible.

Cons

Fast-paced environment but support is always on hand

Pros

- Fast paced environment - Had a collaborative, supportive team while I was there (excluding management) - Great location

Cons

- Highly toxic environment - Micromanaged by CEO at all times - Falsely sold roles during the interview process. - Many do not do what they applied for - Extremely high labour turnover with new employees leaving or seeking new employment within the first week of starting - No appreciation from senior management and any appreciation shown is not genuine - CEO is completely money orientated and company does not care for the employees or their health - Employees are overworked and underpaid - Pay increases only occur when employees express they want to leave - Business will find reasons not to pay well deserved bonuses by belittling the individual and blaming them for things out of their control - Senior management does not take ownership for their mistakes or accept that they need to change for the culture to improve - Management is controlling and has instructed employees not to engage with certain individuals, encouraged bullying within the workplace - CEO expects employees to stay late without paying overtime

We appreciate your candid opinion of our business It’s sounds like you had a very poor experience and this is always disappointing to find. We appreciate that not all companies are well matched to employees and this example being no exception. Your Perception has to be respected We have a very large group of highly engaged employees from long term. Our response We often take someone on and if we and they see something that they can contribute more to or take on then you are right about what they applied for. This is seen as a selling point for the staff as happy for the opportunity, progression and rewards. They enjoy expanding their knowledge and skills and experimenting to see what they do and don’t like as well as helping their colleagues and company grow. We seek purpose led employees wanting to make a difference and grow with us. Leaving in first week is a very gross exaggeration we have one of the top records for those past probation with average serving members of staff in our industry of average 5.5 years ! We genuinely appreciate our staff sorry if we were unsuccessful in demonstrating this to you. We appreciate appreciation is a very personal matter. We agree our CEO is focused on profitable growth amongst the balance on employee engagement, customer satisfaction and learning and growth as we are not a NOT for profit organisation. We do care about health you will see from payroll records we have on occasion had long term sickness from longer serving members and have gone well above expectations in the market for high levels of supporting our employees. We have rigorous policy on health matters please see handbook and consultants manual. The CEO has approved the above and this is fact. According to payroll we are generally above market rate apart from grad entry level and second jobbers in which we are as good as the market. If we saw bullying in the workplace we would not accept this. Also see our policy and handbook. Nor have we had one case brought to line management on exit interviews so we have to disagree with this. We encourage opportunity to be open and we are very sorry you kept this to yourself and felt this way as we could have offered you support. You are correct we do not have “OVERTIME” as most consultants in our industry do not also have the concept of overtime but all employees are entitled to give or not to give discretionary performance over the contractual agreements. Recognition is there whatever they contribute and promotion for those capable too. The consultants industry is not a 9-5 mindset that’s input based but about helping clients and making a difference and being recognised and rewarded for outcomes. The business doubled its profits this period and once again retained 94% of long term clients! 5.5 years averaged employee service This is testimony to our improving management and employing and retaining outstanding dedicated employees. We wish you all the best.

Pros

A top (possibly THE top) fire risk consultancy in the UK High-level professionalism Excellent professional development Generally, very good training Commitment to professional accreditation Amazing client list Very supportive team Business growing very strongly

Cons

The work culture is extremely tough. Almost everyone I know works evenings and weekends. On one hand, the HR people say they don't want people working past 5pm but on the other hand the reports take a long time to write and they don't give sufficient time to do them. The senior management are remote - none of them have done a fire risk assessment in the past 5 years (if ever) and none of them have written a fire report up. They are miserable about reimbursing subsistence expenses. Most people do not complete their probationary period. And that is probably a symptom of the above comments.
