Pros

it’s 100% remote/work from anywhere on EST

Cons

- so, so, so disorganized. mgmt keeps claiming to want to focus on organizing but never get around to it - keep taking on new clients even when there aren’t enough writers to handle the work - writers hired in a part-time basis at first but end up having to do the equivalent of full-time work because mgmt underestimates how long research + writing actually takes - when provided with suggestions on how to lessen the burden on writers, mgmt cites “profit margins” as an excuse and then has the audacity to wonder why turnover is so high - was lied to in my interview when i asked what the turnover rate was. manager said it was high for writers because many glamorize the writing process and are in for a bad shock when they actually do it for a living, but in actuality, people leave because they are treated like they are disposable - two of the three founders of the company seems to be in a world of their own and have zero idea what a hot mess the editorial side is on — and don’t seem to care - there’s little to no communication between the sales side and the editorial side with the former constantly agreeing to to stuff with clients without discussing it with editors first - the editorial staff seem to know almost nothing at all about content marketing and there are even clients who are paying for expertise that the company cannot provide (but still charges the client for it!!) - there is no guide is resources for new writers and barely any training at all. and then management is shocked when writers fall behind - despite its claims, management does not care about employee well-being or appreciate initiative (i created an entire style sheet from scratch and a how-to guide for content writing in my FREE time and the owner had the audacity to tell me that i wasn’t committed to helping the company grow because i was still seeking work outside business hours) - management also loves to cite contracts as a way to threaten employees (e.g. the contract you signed says you must do this) but the contract is vague and not at all clear about many things — which may be intentional on their part - very unprofessional atmosphere — lots of misgendering of staff and putting down writers within business slack channels - management loves to pass the blame to anyone else instead of being accountable - literally no client was genuinely happy with the work they paid for — at most they were tolerant, but more often than not, they were downright angry and had only negative feedback (but management doesn’t care as long as they get money)

Pros

The editors are nice (not mgmt)

Cons

As a writer: This company is a content mill. No question about it. - The time they give you to complete each piece is underestimated. You'll likely take more time than they give you to do each piece. - They don't care about the quality of the content. They just want you to to quickly push out garbage as quick as possible. - They have ZERO content strategy with their clients. And zero understanding of how SEO actually works with writing. They just throw up their hands and say "well whatever, just do what the client wants" even if it's way outside of basic seo understanding. - Sloppy, unprofessional workflow. So many emails sent without attachments, wrong links and briefs, and full of typos. - Sometimes there wouldn't even be a brief! Just an email with one sentence and no prior examples. The writer would have to follow up just to get basic information from the assigning manager. Some briefs were messy copy and pastes full of errors from what looks like a client conversation. - A lot of time a "brief" would have missing information. You'll write the article, and then management will say that you didn't do xyz. Well, that wasn't on the brief. Then they go back and edit the brief, and you still have to take time and change your work because they failed to mention something. - a lot of times, the editor will come back to you and say: "client wants all these additional new tasks covered" - but they don't allot you extra time for this. And it's not making an edit, it's extra content or uploading, etc that the client needs. - There's a reason why the turn over rate with writers is so high. It's not a great place to work. - management is sloppy and disorganized. So many mistakes all over the place. Theres no team spirit either, probably because the turn over is so high that no one sticks around long enough. Management is rough and bullish. - they delete poor reviews and add fake reviews for themselves. It's funny, on google reviews, one of the fake positive reviews is literally from a member of management hah. - in terms of your payment, you are paid via PayPal. BUT, they pass the PayPal fee onto the employee. They don't tell you this in your onboarding or contract, but your payment will have a PayPal fee taken off of it. No other company I've freelanced for has done this - very cheap and sneaky of them. - just overall a horrible experience with the company. Not worth the time or the low pay.

Thank you for your review. Just to respond to a few of your points. Paypal fees are paid by us for our employees and almost all of our employees are on payroll. Our contract actually does state that Paypal fees are the responsibility of the contractors. We don't have the ability to delete poor reviews (just ask Glassdoor what their policies are!). I'm sorry that you had a poor time at the company. It sounds like your work wasn't good enough for our team and we let you go and you are upset. Good luck in your future.

Pros

Each day, you are given the option of accepting writing assignments - or not! The writing rules are clearly defined. Each project's pay is detailed, so you can decide whether a given job is worth your time and effort, based on your schedule. I love that I have the option of working - or not, on any given day. When I have other commitments, either personal or professional, I am able to tend to those without fear of losing my spot with Article-Writing.co. The three staff I work with are all pleasant, professional, and helpful.

Cons

This company pays in Canadian dollars. As a US citizen, I have to take conversion rates into consideration.
