Pros

The best thing about working for Baxter Storey is knowing you are giving a 100% effort to get a job elsewhere.

Cons

My partner is a Chef. The company where they work was taken over by Baxter Storey last year. Last night they were working nights. The day shift hadn't left any indication of the ingredients of one of the dishes. My partner had to pay for a whole portion in order to taste it just to find out what it was so that they could tell the customers when service begun. This is the most despicable episode of several since they took over. Because they do not employ enough staff, people are under tremendous pressure and genuinely take days off because they are constantly poorly. That creates extra pressure on those who are holding the fort. The latest little left field treasure: catering staff are not allowed to purchase a bottle of cold water, even though they are working in a boiling kitchen on a 12 hour shift. They are only allowed to buy sugary fizzy drinks (healthy option eh?), knowing they won't drink this rubbish by choice. They are not allowed to take their own bottled water into work, even though the tap water is vile and not filtered. Get this - they are all too scared to protest as jobs are not easy to find in this area.

Pros

I have no pros for ordinary employees I am sure managment receive lots of perks

Cons

After working quite happily for another company for 3 years Baxterstorey took over. There was lots of promises and things sounded good. In practice this employer was the worst. Breaks were stopped for all employees except the half hour lunch break for full time employees (which I paid for as it was taken off my wages) 2 person jobs were reduced to one. We have the worst pay and conditions. Management was a joke. I went above my manager even though by this time I had little hope of any help. Rather than making things better it just got worse until I had to leave. All this company care about is money. Its a case of put up and shut up. As someone from upper management said to me it's the "ching ching" of the tills that matter. Don't beleive the hype they tell you it's all lies. They will work you like a dog and want you to smile while your doing it. To them employees are a dime a dozen and no matter how hard you work they will always want more.

Pros

lunch paid for! If you have time to eat it though! other than that no such things as cons!

Cons

Where do I start, I was working for them little under a year and well looking at leaving very soon after starting it was that bad. No employment contract for starters. Was meant to be paid mileage as was traveling around but i don't even know what i was being paid as sometimes i wouldn't even get my pay slip but when i did it didn't tell me how many hrs i worked or even the rate of pay i was on! Today was the final straw to be writing this terrible review i actually had a pay slip although i have just left the company the made some rather huge deductions for going off sick in which i had but they took over £100 more off the sick when i added it as that seemed to have the units of hours worked and how much i was on an hour!! The management was appalling never knew who the manger was i had to report to one manager but then had to put my holiday forms in to another so therefore never knew who my manger was! I also had a lady who was a general assistant but thought she was a manager and kept trying to tell what to do etc!! There was no communication i never knew if i was coming going or gone half the time! They except you to do so much in such little time to do it! Training is another big problem they think training is watching someone else do it (another general assistant) when having there audit another employee had asked me where my training file was i was like what training, all employees dealing with food should have a health and hygiene certificate. But as people said above its about saving money for themselves. Extremely high staff turnover so something needs to be looked at!! Shouldn't have such a high staff turnover if they was doing a good job as employers. They also think your life revolves around work and you have no outside commitments.
