Culture issues start at the top

Pros

The job is somewhat glamourous with occasional hair and makeup applications or attending fancy industry networking parties. That is all.

Cons

This place is extremely poorly managed. There's a huge transparency issue with the contractors and their compensation, also just their treatment in general. Was consistently understaffed and under resourced. I was straight up lied to in the interview process about the actual working hours and hybrid schedule. The pay was abysmal and there were no benefits. They take advantage of people early in their careers to gaslight them into thinking that these are appropriate or professional work conditions. The overall culture was to have fear of the CEO while also worshipping her to sooth her fragile ego. Her communication style was entirely unprofessional and straight up mean and manipulative. There was once when she spoke negatively about one employee to their peer, loudly so they would purposefully hear from the other room. She never took accountability for any mistakes or systems that didn't work. Even if the business had been run professionally, the entire model wasn't very good as in order to work, it seemed to need to take advantage of inexperienced stylists and employees. Upon my departure, I was fed a "story" to tell any other employees or contractors why I was leaving in order to make the company look better. I was also blatantly told that if I attempted to work with any of the connections I had made through the job that I would be blacklisted from the weddings industry because they would have felt "used". I believe I was also never paid out for my measly unused PTO, which raises questions about their adherence to employment law.
