Pros

Large company with many resources and opportunities for advancing education.

Cons

Upper management often blames nursing staff for ‘costing the hospital too much money,’ and tells nursing if they would just volunteer to work another 12 hour shift every couple of weeks things would be better. Well the current CEO takes a salary of $1.5 million, and everyone on the executive team makes over $250,000 per year. So, we know exactly how much THEY are costing the hospital. Many units are understaffed with patient ratios that are pushing on potentially dangerous. Nurse managers are frustrated and burnt out as they rarely receive help from upper management, unless you work cardiac, trauma, or GI. Nurse manager and assistant nurse manager never helped on the floor, never came in on nights or weekends when desperately short staffed. Sick and vacation time come out of the same pool of PTB hours. If you get low volumed they will take your PTB hours, if it is not your holiday to work but your day of the week to work, they’ll take your PTB.

Pros

Little. The whole company is turning into a female led cabal of disgruntled women all talking crap about one another.

Cons

The massive amount of liberal bull crap being pushed on medical professionals. It’s baked into almost everything. They do “weight sensitivity training” where people in HR make you take training that tell you not to tell patients they’re obese, which is a medical term. I’m all for being kind and respectful, but we need to be able to mention relevant information about patients conditions to them without the risk of being accused of being disrespectful to patients. This has gotten out of hand long ago.
