Pros

The connections you are able to develop with clients and the experience gained working with those with special needs. You can obtain a position with little experience.

Cons

Too many to name but first I would say the lie that was told during the interview process and the post on various job websites. They DO NOT and will not offer individual supervision toward licensure and though it was stated that you may have the option of paying for individual supervision, a few were told later (after working there for months) that this was not allowed although this was promised on the job announcement/in the interviews. It was stated after some time that this was not allowed because of their contract with the regional centers. Interesting because obtaining supervision hours in this field toward licensure is a normal practice. The challenging part was knowing that others were obtaining their hours through this company while others were told it was not allowed. So the lies and what appeared to be favoritism was uncomfortable. Another con is that the regional center staff often talk to the employees like they are children/uneducated with CBEM staff allowing for this, stating they have a contract with them and a working relationship they cannot afford to disrupt things so management sides with the regional center while the employees go unsupported. You will travel with the normal mileage reimbursement, however, how they schedule your appointments is not the most productive use of your time or the company's dollars. You are not allowed to set your own schedule which would allow for you to be the most productive. Lastly, the salary is not compatible with the amount of work you are expected to do, and with the level of education you are required to have, the pay should certainly reflect this.

Thank you for your comments. I am sorry that you misunderstood that we offered individual supervision hours. However it has been our policy as a company to provide paid group supervision, which we typically review during the interview process. We have recently increased our base CIS salary to recognize the talents of our clinical staff and are working towards expanding our benefit package.

Low pay & high stress

Pros

Entry level job. Easy to get hired due to high turn over, there's always endless vacancies. Good in-between job while looking for something more serious.

Cons

Low, very low, extremely low pay, given the educational requirements necessary for the job. Good luck ever paying off student loans on this salary. Mileage check barely covers high gas prices, yet alone all the wear and tear on your vehicle. 24 hour crisis hotline coverage obligation becomes very frequent due to high turnover and lack of employee coverage.

Pros

The team environment and direct supervisors are the best part of the job! Working with developmentally disabled clients with behavioral issues can be challenging at times but you are able to feel supported as you gain this experience and confidence in responding to crisis situations. The flexible hours also allow for independence in setting your own schedule. It is wonderful to have a job with benefits that provides Clinical Supervision and interns earn hours toward Social Work or Marriage and Family licensure! CBEM also provides all employees with company iPhones and MacBook Laptops.

Cons

This job is not for everyone as it does require a crisis response and holding a 24/7 crisis hotline. The interviewers do a great job explaining the job; however, some employees "forget" what they signed up for and complain about doing the job duties. I worked alongside both the individuals who left the negative reviews and can confirm they were unwilling to be team players, complete the basic job duties, and did everything they could to avoid meeting with clients or do the work they were being paid for so I wouldn't put a lot of merit into what they wrote.
