Don't believe the hype

Pros

FYI, this company games their Glassdoor reviews. The culture is actually very pleasant to work at. Building is great. Everyone is nice.

Cons

Like a lot of startups, this company has a ton of hype and is great at telling the story of why they're great. But remember it's hype. It's an engineering led culture, so getting things done quickly is challenging. Almost every team misses deadlines or takes a really long time to build simple stuff.

Thank you for sharing your perspective. Certainly most companies experience challenges as they scale, and Canopy is no different. The layoffs were a particularly hard time as the company matured. That’s why we’ve worked to ensure that all our alum land on both feet in short order. But this setback is not at the heart of our story. We continue as a driven team supported by our advisors and partners to serve our growing customer base.

Cutting costs?

Pros

The coworkers I've had at this company have been top-notch. Smart, driven, and extremely friendly. I consider them family and many have gone on to do amazing things elsewhere. Canopy also has some great perks like unlimited PTO and good health insurance.

Cons

Canopy's biggest problem is they constantly cut corners in order to try and make things cheaper, but in the long run it's made everything more expensive, which has resulted in mass layoffs (Ex: Hiring an inexperienced leader to save an extra $10k, resulting in major inefficiencies and poor decisions down the line). This largely comes from the CEO, who is a very down-to-earth, kind person, that doesn't know much about running a business.

Thank you for your comments. We appreciate that this is a particularly hard time and agree that Canopy’s talent, past and present, is among the best in our category and the region. The layoff - Canopy’s first - was specifically aimed at re-focusing the company to prepare for the next phase of growth. We appreciate and value the contributions you made to Canopy and will continue to support our alum as they find the next step in their careers.
