Pros

Great people. Fundamentally positive. Willingness to get things done. Revolutionising digital commerce. Massive investment in Ai and tooling. Autonomy to change the world of digital payments.

Cons

Very fast change not always thought through fully creates some operational chaos.

Thank you for your review. We’re pleased to hear your positive feedback on our culture, the calibre of our people and the pace at which we’re advancing digital commerce, particularly through investment in AI and tooling. As a fast-scaling business, change is a constant and enables us to innovate and adapt quickly, though we recognise this can at times create operational complexity. We remain focused on improving how we execute as we continue to grow.

Pros

Tried to think of a few here but there really are no upsides to putting yourself through this hell. Jobseekers should stay away. Those 4-5 star reviews are a feeble attempt by some at getting brownie points from some in mgmt and avoid being on the next layoff list.

Cons

This platform is used by job seekers so truth is paramount. This place brings out the worst in people no matter how good they were to start with. You simply have to look at how many leaders (especially female) have left CKO to go on to other companies and thrive! Some of the ways I have seen the company reward bad behaviour: - Promotions and praise for sacrificing personal values to toe the company line - Perks (including trips abroad) for betrayals of friends and colleagues. Example, Ibiza, New York, Dubai - Huge bonuses for the sycophants while everyone else suffers - Encouraging poor Sales practices by spreading fear in Control divisions and making their leaders disappear. - Encouraging promiscuous and cultish behaviour by public endorsement (Linkedin or otherwise), sometimes even by the CEO Good leaders will invariably suffocate. If you are a good person, no amount of money, travel or title inflation will be worth breathing in the poisonous air at this place. Speak to former employees and in candid private conversations, I have not heard anyone ever recommend working here.

We were sorry to read your review, but fundamentally do not recognise your characterisation of the business. We have a zero tolerance for behaviour that doesn’t align with our values and have a robust performance cycle to ensure fair & competitive recognition.

Pros

Some good people naturally given the headcount. Decent compensation and benefits. Free food and drink and extras for those who are able to be in office.

Cons

In the 20 months I have been at Checkout I have had 4 line managers; I have also witnessed the layoff of ~250 people, often with immediate effect and in some cases incredibly uncouth circumstances - Record Growth announcement and then announcing the shutting down of Porto and Berlin offices two weeks before Christmas? Checkout has you covered. You see, the issue here lies solely at the feet of the CEO. Look at the list of the ever changing leadership and higher management team. No ones sticks around because, as others have pointed out, if you challenge his decision with good reason (logic, expertise, informed) and he doesn't agree you're basically cutting short your time at CKO. This is immediately reflected in the Return To Office policy and the CEOs obsession with having everyone in office. The CEO has effectively ignored the warnings heeded around talent retention, employee morale (No mention of the latest employee survey data after month upon month of decline in scores) and additional costs (transformation of space, swag to silence the unease, additional food costs) to try and deliver a policy that is driven by nothing but his own unfathomable ego. "If people don't like it, work elsewhere" "To show my commitment to this, I will be moving back to London" (Of course you will, you can afford a nanny to look after your kids and you're not exactly going to struggle to buy a house are you Mr Billionaire). I have no doubt he knows about the product and tech but if he was CEO on a board he would've been given his marching orders long ago. As others have mentioned he is playing with lives; I regret ever working for this company and the blame lies solely at his door. No decision ever seems to be informed, or long term, or strategic in thinking. The CKO cultists pride themselves on the company "adaptability, agility and flexibility" which covers up the lack of identity, sustainability long term credibility. For the sake of your own sanity, value and inner peace. Avoid.
