Pros

-Nice location. -Multinational workplace -Many good pubs around.

Cons

-Incompetent managers and team leaders. -Bullying and abuse behaviors are everyday practice there. -HR totally accepts if not encourages bullying towards engineers not belonging to specific network of friends. -People get promoted based on how well they smile or abuse their colleaugues. -Very high turnover rates. Almost all the experienced and knowledgeable people have left the site. -The higher management (out of Lewes) seems to also appreciate bullying and cronyism as efficient management techniques. So, no hope... -It was a small company acquired by Continental but they never got integrated and they failed to adopt Conti's Values and code of Ethics. The previous management still has an obscure role in the building selection and the selection of people to be promoted

Dear commenter, thank you very much for your feedback on Glassdoor. We regret that your experience at Continental was negative. Our four core values “Trust”, “One For Another”, “Passion to Win” and “Freedom to Act” are integral parts of our continuous development process. Especially our leaders should act as role models and contribute to a positive working environment by living those values actively. Whoever is not able or does not want to live up to those values is out of place at Continental. Especially lack of trust between staff and their managers leads to a tense and difficult situation. Continental is offering to give feedback anonymously with different feedback tools (like Big Six Radar) and point at grievances or improvable situations. Alternatively the employee should use the chance to talk to a person they trust to ask for advice or support, e.g. colleagues from the HR department. We are aware that top performance requires team work and cooperation. Therefore we support flat hierarchies, openness and respect within the daily work. This applies also to leader who perform their responsibility with a cooperative leadership style. We strive to foster every employee individually depending on his/her abilities. If grievances or improvable situations arise Continental is offering its employees the possibility to give anonymously feedback. Good cooperation between employees and manager depends on trust and openness and should be nurtured. For this reason mobbing or bullying is not tolerated in any way at Continental. Accusations of bullying are taken very seriously at Continental and the grievance procedure which is compliant with the ACAS guideline is followed. Best regards, Continental Career Team

Pros

You work for a well known company so it's something that may look good on your CV

Cons

Decisions often made outside of UK. Technical Experts are not listened to so products are generally flawed. Overloaded with project and product managers and too few engineers. Management culture is to cover one's own back and to move up the ladder asap. Redundancies are being made to experienced engineers however locations with project managers have been unaffected. Only offer minimum legal redundancy to workers with 20+ years service which for a company with the resources of continental is unbelievable. I'm fortunate that i managed to find another job quickly but others have not been. Engineers receive very little training and are generally pigeonholed on to one project. I worked on only two different projects in 7 years and I had to lodge complaints in order to change projects as I was not getting any opportunities for new work. Bad communication between UK sites.
