    Pros

Company is building the next generation technologies for the semiconductor industry. Pay is good for the area. Lots of opportunities to learn and get training.

    Cons

Easy to get into the endless cycle of meetings for your day.

I worked at Cymer full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Salary was high compared to other industries. Majority of colleagues were intelligent, and easy to work with (for the most part).

    Cons

Easily the most dysfunctional environment I've ever worked in. The only thing resembling a healthy culture at Cymer resides in the break room refrigerators. Within a year or two of the ASML acquisition, Cymer lost everything that once made it great. Top talent left in swarms, which inauspiciously included many of the best and brightest leaders in the company. What remained (and perhaps what still remains) is a cesspool of unenthusiastic employees that have gone through hell to remain in a company that's being actively cannibalized by the company that purchased it.

I worked at Cymer full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Cutting edge technology. Interesting and friendly coworkers. Extremely successful company. Very competitive starting salary. Work is very interesting 20% of the time. Good place to begin a professional career for newly minted PhD graduates.

    Cons

Very tightly controlled use of time. Very few opportunities for salary improvements and virtually no opportunity for up-ward mobility. Salary flat after initial hire. Work is mundane 80% of the time. Very limited opportunities for self-directed research due to extensive top-down micro-control of all engineering functions.

    Advice to Management

Develop management structures with upward mobility opportunities that rely less on micromanaging of engineers and more on allowing engineers to manage themselves and develop their new areas of research without requiring continuous alignment with upper management. Try to think like Google X might for their employees.

I have been working at Cymer (More than a year)

    Pros

Cutting edge technology and good benefits

    Cons

Horrendous work environment. No assigned seating, all to cram more people into a facility that cannot handle it. Parking is a nightmare. The have a valet to park cars behind other cars, so you can’t even get out when you need to without getting the valet, which can take up to 45 minutes.

Get another building instead of cramming everyone in this campus that does not even have adequate bathrooms! Yes, porta-potties on-site!

    Advice to Management

    Learn how to plan.

I worked at Cymer full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Lots of talented young engineers

    Cons

Poor management. No structure. No planning. Most management cannot work well with asml. Open work space with limited seats have you running around for a place to sit down every day. It's like musical chair competition. No recognition for talented engineers who make things happen. Undeserving people getting promoted. Overall high stress environment which is artificially created. Cymer would have been down the drain long time back if asml did not buy out.

    Advice to Management

Take management 101, before becomjng managers and promote people with good technical background as managers. Some of the managers are as good as Walmart managers
