Pros

What we've built to date and what we've achieved has been amazing. The people I've worked with are fantastic and there's been very little ego.

Cons

We've descended into chaos, even when there is clarity, it's not for a good reason. Management change their minds on priorities constantly. Exec do deals or instruct you to speak to random companies that their friends work for or that they have some hidden arrangement with. Recently teams lack authority over their solutions because it's probably been dictated from above. We can save money, but you can't just cut overhead overnight, you need time to analyse the problem and build out the solutions.

Pros

Some very talented people still left in the company. Some interesting projects. Flexible way of working.

Cons

Priorities change every week and is not clear what is most important. 100+ projects for one quarter, soon will be more projects than engineers. Projects are prioritised not basing on data but on what someone from the management wants. Lack of clear communication from the management. Not taking care about DAZN customers, only about profit. Not doing any innovation or experimentation. Saving money on everything, no benefits, no budget for anything. Pensions cut. Forced way of working within Engineering, not being Agile any more. Moving most of engineering teams to India to being outsourced. Not enough resources to deliver projects but unrealistic expectations and delivery dates taken from nowhere, not being consulted.

DAZN Response

Kinda difficult to not respond - I owe it to anyone reading... Too many priorities and too many projects has definitely been an issue for us. Our new One Portfolio approach is already helping with that - hopefully you see the impact soon - we had the first steering meeting recently and saw how we've prioritised projects based on market and customer need. We have looked to manage our costs, but that's exactly what a sensible business should do - manage avoidable costs and build a great business. You're in the UK, so it's sad you haven't seen the investment in benefits over the past six months - the launch of 'your locker', electric car leasing, subsidised gym memberships etc. Hopefully some of this starts to filter through to you and helps improve your situation - thanks anyaway for your efforts.

Pros

We have an array of talent at DAZN which include passionate and talented individuals with genuine aspirations to improve the business and their career along the way. From commercially driven staff to engineers (and i'm talking about the people who do the work, not the ones at the top of the chain taking all the credit when projects are completed), DAZN has some of the most forward thinking people in the tech industry.

Cons

The people I talk about above are being pushed away, mainly to competitors in the media space, by complete and utter car crash C suite management. I don't even believe SVP/EVP are part of this, it's even bigger. We want to become profitable, there's no hiding that. But firing staff in waves upon waves upon waves is just highlighting the instability at the top of the business. We've all been given "clear goals" of which these "clear goals" are complex, ever changing and in my opinion only in the best interests of the CEO/CTO personal bank accounts. DAZN had some of the most forward thinking leaders which we've let go, people who will most likely go to these competitors and make their subsequent business triple the money we'd make here and it's all down to authoritarian micro-management. Flexible working has been the subject of major discussion this week with the CEO mandating Monday's back in the office globally, along with "regular" attendance. I personally really enjoyed him conveying this message from Qatar, just the small matter of 4,193miles from the Hammersmith office.
