Pros

- The mission is truly something many people can get behind if they care about having a positive impact through their work. - The team, with the exception of a few individuals in senior positions, are all incredibly passionate and talented. I am happy to say that I have made a few very close friends throughout the chaos that is Daye. - The product is amazing, from the website to the packaging, everything is thought through. - Mostly remote with company-wide retreats when there's budget for them. - The CEO Lisa is a really nice person, who's passionate about female health and has tonnes of experience so if you get to work with her you will be learning a lot. - If you don't have to deal with the founder and some of the senior management directly and on a regular basis you might actually love working here. - Despite the many cons Daye has a good name in the industry and can serve as a stepping stone in progressing your career elsewhere.

Cons

- The biggest con is the founder, she is at the root of all the toxicity at Daye and believe me, there is an insane amount. Even though she is incredibly passionate about the company's mission, she is ill-equipped to be a leader let alone manage people. Every single female employee at the company has been made to cry because of her bullying and constant passive-aggressive comments, slack messages etc. In general, all the employees at Daye are constantly tiptoeing around the founder because they don't know if she'll be in a bad mood and scream at them or if she will be praising them. This changes on a daily basis, sometimes even hourly. - The staff turnover is insanely high, I have never seen or heard anything like it and that's just indicative of how bad of a workplace this is. And no it's not because it's a startup and the pace is not for everyone, that's just an excuse they give to mask the real issues. - Employees are expected to absorb others’ responsibilities without an increase in salary, role title change or any discussion/ negotiation. - There is what I like to call ''a golden circle'' of blatantly preferred employees who also often happen to be friends of the founder. If you're in the ''golden circle'' you're lucky - your growth will be supported, and you will even be promoted to senior-level positions without having remotely adequate experience, you will be compensated more, treated to dinners, taken on trips locally & abroad etc. - During my time here there was no HR and it is my understanding that the current HR is more of a ''yes man'' who only enables the horrible culture. - With the exception of the employees in the golden circle, everyone else is severely underpaid, way below the industry standard. But because they prioritise hiring in Bulgaria, where labour is cheap, they know that eventually, someone will agree to the pennies they're offering under the guise of being part of an ''international company with loads of opportunities for growth''. - Career progression is purposefully stunned due to the founder's insecurities or if she simply doesn't like you for whatever reason you will not be given any opportunities to grow. You will be ''punished'' for even daring to want to grow and by this I mean the founder laughing in your face and telling you how you haven't achieved a single thing since you joined the company. Monthly, 6-month and yearly reviews are purposefully forgotten and ignored. - Access to mental health support was nice when it was there and then it got removed with no warning, explanation or replacement for months. When employees shared they were struggling, this was ignored. - The holiday approval process is purposefully gatekept by the founder and if you happen to catch her in a bad mood you will be made to explain the reason for taking a holiday - even if it's half a day off and you haven't used up your yearly allowance which you are entitled to by law.

Pros

Great mission, environmentally conscious, fun branding.

Cons

- Having a team of young, eager people sounds great but comes at the cost of backbone and experience. It’s just a way to exploit people’s inexperience so nobody will challenge anything. Those who do get ousted or leave within a few months. - Favouritism and hiring of friends meant there was an inner circle, so newcomers with no “in” were at a disadvantage - Bullying and micromanagement from the Founder (then CEO) despite her not having any background or experience in most areas of the business, refusal to respect expertise of people hired to do those jobs - Unrealistic goals like launching multiple services/products in just a few months, with no input from and no regard for the people who’ll need to manage double or triple workload to deliver - HR information such as pay and disputes were shared with the whole company under the guise of “an open culture” or “transparency”. - Performance management was a sham - Founder-CEO doled out vague criticisms with no examples but was unable or unwilling to give actionable feedback of specific desired behaviours or outcomes. Lack of people management experience and general professional experience was evident. Hopefully this has changed with new management. - White feminism central. Racial diversity was poor, and little to no addressing of cisnormativity/gender binary in the product’s messaging, and questions about inclusive language were fobbed off.
