I have been working at Defence Science and Technology Laboratory full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

++ The upgraded dCloud is an improvement but it's still unusable by 2020 standards.

    Cons

.. It's a very difficult environment to remain positive and retain your enthusiasm. .. There is no chance of a career here, just a lot of generic non-jobs. .. The middle-upper management are inept. .. You will be recognised for your talent with 'lip service' (aka the monthly "DSTL Thank You") to keep you in place. .. Has a high proportion of liars, braggards, and backstabbers.

I have been working at Defence Science and Technology Laboratory full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The work. Work in Dstl can be extremely challenging and stimulating. I rarely do the same thing twice. The core of Dstl is to figure out how to do things and that comes through in the work. If you enjoy a bit of intellectual exploration then it's a great place to be. People generally have freedom to decide their own approach to their work. If you do it well you will find yourself picking up problems faster than you can solve them which means you have to be good at managing time and workload. It's ok to say 'no' in Dstl and management will support you with this.

    Cons

The hot-desking environment can make it difficult at times to find an appropriate place to work. This can make it difficult to feel you are in a stable environment. However, it is good for developing contact with a wider range of your colleagues. The salary is not the best so bear that in mind if that's your driver - in my view it is good enough.
