Hazardous and risky work. “Safety” constantly pushed by managers but this soon goes out of the window as soon as production is affected. Then turn around and say it doesn’t matter how long jobs take in site meetings and communications. Site maintenance manager is possibly the worst I’ve come across, a real bully. Constantly have to watch your back and immensely difficult to talk to. Threatening to take money off people as it would be a cost saving and look good for him. Other managers and supervisors below him are pretty good but they also have to deal with what side of the bed he wakes up on. Many of the managers and other employees have worked at this site for all their life, so site knowledge is great but also a hindrance as they don’t know any other way and refuse to change. Bonus % varies greatly depending on job role. Constant site and company surveys but no findings are ever really taken on board. Just a tick box exercise. Poor staff retention in the maintenance department due to management practices. Offer you one thing to aid retention, whilst taking away two with the other hand. Questions at times if the extra pay is worth the risk of health issues down the line and dealing with management.
