Worked as an MHA/PCT on the psychiatric inpatient floor (mostly kids, sometimes adults). One of those "I wish I had sued" situations.
!!!!!! They claim there is no HR code of conduct to allow employees to anonymously report sexual harassment !!!!!!!!!! There is also no union!!!!!
Mice, roaches, black mold, a total lack of active management, unreasonably strict on attendance to make you feel like you're always on thin ice and therefore subject to whatever kind of %^$# that's convinient for them.
Do not expect a raise!
Desperately need a Mental Health day from the overcrowded, absolutely chaotic psych ward? Too bad! Sick? Too bad! Had my vacation cancelled because I was TOLD by the manager to call out for suspecting I had COVID. On a separate occasion, had a fever, sick as a dog and they still wanted to write me up for staying in bed-- doctor's note or not. They'd rather get everyone in the locked unit sick as a dog than let you take a day off, I guess? I risked the write-up. Oh well. They're also chronically understaffed and hire and fire like crazy so expect to be overworked to the max if you care about the job or just have a general sense of duty as a human being.
They really show favoritism amongst the techs, too. You're constantly burnt out. The most senior person on shift couldn't even survive two full years-- that's how inhospitable this place is for the people trying their best to help mentally ill children in exchange for a barely livable wage. Even if they have juiced up the pay, your peace of mind is not worth it. "Full time" is every /other/ weekend off, plus a singular workday a week. This means your workweek is more like 2 workweeks in one. You will be exhausted and broke, and they will hound you to stay later and pick up extra shifts for them.
We were subjected to sexual harassment at the hands of coworkers and patients too, with no protection for a majority female staff. There is no healthy communication between departments. Your safety and well-being is the absolute least of their concerns. No amount of money is worth it.
