Pros
A pro of working in my local store is that i actually get some hours which in turn gets me some money. The staff are generally friendly. The 10 percent discount is handy. Some good work nights out. Argos does great charity work. Can be flexible on time off. The pay is quite good but not enough hours. Its enjoyable to make customers happy. Overall i am content with my job but there is so much room for improvement. It is a job I would advise as temporary for people only.
Cons
The hours i work after 3 years have been halfed (25 to now being 12 roughly)because of the new layout to 'picking and putting away' items, when there was meant to be no changes to the hours. Theres no room for development after three years of consistent hard work. Management do not help if stuck, ie if you are understaffed and ask for help as there is too many orders and something is missing you may aswell have just asked them to sever their own leg. If your asked to come in earlier or later to help out you are not even verbally thanked which is insulting because the extra hour does not make a difference in pay and is usually asked the same day when if you have something planned it isnt acceptable to do.. (But i suppose thats the downside to keeping a job) The new picking system is extremely lagging in my store, it crashes often and just beeps at you. It also is not the comfiest thing to have on your head. The shifts are usually 3 hours 45 mins to ensure you do not get a food break.(which is irritating as i bodybuild and need food every 2-3 hours) or it will be a 5 hour 45 shift where you miss out on a half hour break by 15 mins. With the new headset system communication with colleagues is very difficult as you are not allowed to stop working whilst in the stockroom (which is understandeable as your there to do a job) but the front of house if full of people who are allowed to talk. The stockroom is ALL male in my store and the front of the store is ALL female. Management all say how well the new headset programme is going yet iv yet to see all but one of my management team actually put on a headset for more than a shift they speak highly of something theyv not used properly. In a 4 hour 30 shift i walk around 11 km whilst picking and doing delivery always pivoting on my feet which sucks for your knees after a while. Space to put away items at the moment is near impossible without more sales yet we keep getting more stock for example our tv bays are all completely full.. Yet we just got in several new 40 inch+ tvs.. Then your to magically find that space.
