Cons
CME got into a 10 year agreement with google in 2021. The idea was that we would migrate all data and shift our data platforms to GCP. In the last 4 years during this transformation has been a joke. We were promised our work to be faster, more efficient instead it has become a mix of frustration, workarounds and tech debt that will never be addressed . Management decisions to move to a "Portfolio Model" and embrace agile/pod principles has become the biggest gripe of most employees. Essentially they want to integrate engineering with the business teams into smaller teams called pods.....sounds good on paper but has been an utter disaster. Teams are now subject to endless "ceremonies" and micromanagement adding to frustration. Management seems to think the more meetings you have and the more paperwork you do in Jira the more work gets done...which is the opposite. The worse part is that management doesn't listen to their staff and puts people in charge that have no background in development and are completely unqualified in technology. Some of these leaders have never built anything yet are in charge of leading technical development. Constant complaints about this new org structure have gone to Senior Leadership and like always they ignore it thinking it will work itself out. Management seems hell bent on thinking agile processes and having google cloud will give them ROI automatically instead of solving the real issues...issues that the staff has been raising. As a result of these failures there has been a power grab by certain individuals/teams and a culture of blame (out of convenience by the individuals that want power) has taken hold as frustration mount.
