Pros

After working at the business for nearly 6 years, the first few years were great, the Manchester office was a great atmosphere, the sales director at the time was a role model for all who wanted to achieve. There was a clear line of progression for your career. Most people will say this in their first year or so at the business when you are blind to what happens behind closed doors. The commission plan WAS great and simple (enter a number, find out what you get), now it’s a convoluted, confusing and disheartening system which confuses you to a point where you can’t even question what you earn because they don’t even know either. The new commission software was a way of masking that.

Cons

In 2018/2019 when the senior leadership team did a reshuffle and hired externally for most leadership roles, current employees were completely stunted in their progression as all the leadership roles they were looking to move into were now taken by what I would describe as egotistical tyrants who had no idea how to manage a sales team, muster up an accurate forecast or knew what a good company culture was. The “great place to work” title which has been awarded recently was won at a very low approval %. At present, employees are being rewarded with Rolex’s and being asked to post on LinkedIn as a way to combat the bad reputation the Sales management team has. I could count on many hands the amount of times people used to cry at work or over teams and been given a number to call for mental health assistance which was a box ticking exercise by HR when it could’ve been solved by actually dealing with the issues at hand. My time at the business came to an incredibly unfortunate end and I would’ve love to have stayed, I even gave the management team simple asks which was a pay benchmark (declined) and a clear career progression plan (overlooked). Shouldn’t that be a standard? Most of the reviews you’ll see on here were written by people who were at the business for less than a year- blind. Take with a pinch of salt and good luck in your application process, you won’t be there for long.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, although we are surprised and disappointed by your comments. We work hard and with #Passion to make IRIS a great place to work that provides all employees with an environment where they are respected, cared for, and supported during their career. We deeply value our employees’ feedback and use a variety of platforms to listen to any concerns or brilliant ideas. One of the ways we do this is by using an employee engagement survey, Peakon, each month to empower all our employees to share their fantastic feedback in real time with their managers and senior leaders, so that we can continue to #MakeItHappen together. We are very proud to have been recognised as one of the UK’s Best Workplaces for two years in a row, ranking #12 in the Super Large category in 2022. This is a result of employees scoring us highly in an anonymous survey conducted by the third party, Great Place to Work®, the global authority on workplace culture, employee experience and leadership behaviours. Great Place to Work® is a highly respected organisation which has extremely high standards for the accolades it presents. Although we are proud of this achievement, we are always looking to be the best we can be and have implemented action plans to build on our strengths and continue to become an even better place to work. We are also delighted to have placed in the top 25 Best Workplaces for Wellbeing. We care deeply about our employee wellbeing and mental health. We do this through our incredible Mental Health First Aiders, our Belonging Champions, daily wellbeing nudges, our weekly workplace support group, company-funded access to talking therapies, wellbeing apps, an Employee Assistance Program, and Mindfulness training. We also have a dedicated Wellbeing intranet page where employee can access all of these resources and find specific and tailored support. Career progression and personal development is of the upmost importance to us. Since January 2021, we have been delighted to have offered 467 promotions, role change, secondments, and converting fixed term opportunities to permanent contracts. We are also pleased to provide fantastic opportunities for growth and development through funded and free training, sponsored apprenticeships and other educational qualifications, and our own mentoring scheme, which encourages employees to share their knowledge and expertise in support of their colleagues’ progression and development. Each year, we also support hundreds of nominees for our High Potential Programme, which has been implemented to provide our employees with opportunities to progress their careers with us, through networking sessions, webinars, and other development activities. We are also delighted to reward our fantastic salespeople for hitting their targets. Our current commission scheme has involved rolling out the same scheme across Sales, moving to monthly commission payments, simplifying tiers and types of order and the chance to earn 200% of commission once you hit your target. We’re also investing in training for our salespeople so that they can develop their skills, learn different products, and grow their careers. We are also pleased to run a recognition award for our highest performing salespeople each quarter. We also use benchmarking data during our annual salary review process, to ensure that everyone is paid competitively and fairly for their hard work. We are delighted to be a Real Living Wage employer, meaning we promise to pay a fair wage to cover the real cost of living in the UK, as calculated by the Real Living Wage Foundation. In addition, we provide a generous benefits package, 26 days of holiday per year, and charitable volunteering opportunities to all UK employees. We are sorry to hear that this was not your experience. If you would like to discuss this in more detail, please reach out to our Chief People Officer, Stephanie Kelly, or contact EmployeeFeedback@iris.co.uk with any further comments. Kind regards, the HR team.

Pros

I have been with Iris for approximately 5 months and have been incredibly impressed. The people I work with from my peers, leadership (including executive leadership) and my team, are amazing. Building relationships has been easy as most of the employees are open to it, are very collaborative and genuinely want to help! Iris is also focused on equality and ensure we all have a fair opportunity for growth. While we have a lot to do here, it is clear that we are valued.

Cons

As a rapidly growing organization, we have some growing pains and some foundational processes, systems and flow that need to be updated and/or adjusted, but nothing that won't be fixed over time.
