Pros

Benefits are great. The opportunity to work with people at the top of their field, any support or advice you need is at the touch of your fingers, and as a whole, the company truly cares about their people. Overall I can say that I’m thankful and enjoyed my 7+ years with the firm...the hours can be long and the work is challenging...but you learn a ton and frankly, overtime is of the part of the deal when you’re in public accounting.

Cons

We’re talking about a Big 4 public accounting firm...obviously long hours for most of the year. Although they have tried to improve their 401(k) contributions, it’s still almost a joke at how little they are willing to match. Also, singles watch out...unless you have children, you can kiss work/life balance away. However, if you’re an accountant thinking about working at KPMG, don’t be mislead...this is standard across ALL public accounting firms. The adage is true — the PEOPLE you work with make the difference and the overtime, work, and benefits are pretty standard across the board.

Pros

It might sound cliche but the Pro for me is the people that I work with. I'm lucky enough to be staffed in a team with great leadership. Managers are actually willing to coach junior members and be a real mentor. I very much appreciate their efforts.

Cons

Long hours and office politics. This is pretty basic and obvious for any public accounting firms. Every time a quarter end, year end, or a special filing is going out, you can expect 10-14 hour days. It might be fine in your early career but it gets really tiring after a few years.
