Pros

Auditing generally gives you a diversified perspective on what's happening with a number of companies. KPMG provided great training resources.

Cons

Inflexible career path. If you get stuck in the government practice, be prepared to leave the firm in order to get out--if that's not the path you want to take. The rating system is frustrating because in order to be ranked as a top performer, you have to be performing at a level above your title. There were inconsistencies in the culture and the things the tell you during recruitment. The sell their "flexible" work schedule (i.e. working from home), but managers generally get bent out of shape when you request anything outside the norm. It was also apparent that there is a hierarchy to be abided by. Associates are to report to seniors, seniors to managers, and mangers to partners. Any break in the chain when asking questions or discussing strategies will be frowned upon.

Pros

It might sound cliche but the Pro for me is the people that I work with. I'm lucky enough to be staffed in a team with great leadership. Managers are actually willing to coach junior members and be a real mentor. I very much appreciate their efforts.

Cons

Long hours and office politics. This is pretty basic and obvious for any public accounting firms. Every time a quarter end, year end, or a special filing is going out, you can expect 10-14 hour days. It might be fine in your early career but it gets really tiring after a few years.
