Pros
I enjoyed working for Matalan as I liked my managers, and the location was good for me. But that's essentially where the pros end. I'd recommend working here for a short while, but not long term as it's not worth the stress for the pay.
Cons
The managers would put a lot of stress and pressure on individual employees to complete jobs, and they'd often cancel staff's shifts with no regard of the amount of extra work this will leave for those who still had to come in. The Matalan Reward card system was awful, as there was an immense amount of pressure put on us to try and sign customers up for the card (despite the fact that we got absolutely no benefits from it). If we failed to sign a customer up for a card, then it'd be classed as a 'bypass' (as we'd have to bypass the rewards card screen) and this would be regularly monitored by the managers in order for them to see how many bypasses we had. Staff were told off and made to feel incompetent if they got over a certain amount of bypasses per shift. For the pay, the stress of bypasses just wasn't worth it.
