Pros

The people you meet are amazing. They're down to earth, they're funny, they think of countless innovative ways to pass the time. Generally, apart from the few uptight mug's, t's a pleasant atmosphere to work in and I don't think I would've stayed this long in the job if it had not been for the people I've met and the friends I've made. During your break, McDonalds will kindly allow you to have a free employee meal which consists of a Main Menu item (burger, wrap, etc), fries, drink and dessert, which is an advantage as you don't have to spend additional money for lunch. Very fast paced environment which makes it fun and your shift goes fast. Holiday pay is fair. Pay for over 18's is good as well, wouldn't say the same for under 18's.

Cons

Some Managers are so horrible. Depends on the store because one of my friends who works in a different store has a really chilled, nice manager. Mine varies depending on the shift but I'd say more than half of the managers I've worked with are manipulative, disrespectful and pushy which can really ruin the rest of the shift. They expect you to work overtime without asking, which is annoying if you have commitments later that day. Your lunch break which is meant to be approx 45 mins can be cut to as short as 15 mins (with no second break promised) if the restaurant is busy. This applies to the customers also. 98% of customers are sweet and respectful and a pleasure to serve however that dreaded 2% can be so horrible

Pros

Experience varies heavily depending on the owner/operator you work for. Free and discounted food. 2 weeks PTO. Vision, Dental and Health insurance. Offers rapid development opportunities.

Cons

Work-life balance is nonexistent. In fact, the director of operations has stated numerous times, “Work life balance is a myth”. The company states you are required to work 45 hrs/week minimum; Realistically, GM’s can expect to work 55-60 hours in store with constant calls and messages when home. The company does not count any work done outside of the restaurant toward your 45hr requirement. There is no training for this position as you are expected to figure it out on the job. They offer $2000 per month performance bonus but are always finding new ways to disqualify you and move the goalposts when you actually earn it.
