Pros

There are chances for (minimal) advancement if you excel. You have access to free food if you work for more than 6 hours.

Cons

Scheduling is inconsistent, especially in the off season. If the store is not busy, people will be sent home having only worked 2 or 3 hours. I was hired to work full time and never worked more than 35 hours a week (so I could not receive benefits). Some winter weeks which were predicted to be slow, I'd only work 20-25 hours. Work is maximum effort for minimum wage. Their business model of fresh, ready to eat, and fully stocked food is highly unsustainable. We did donate to food banks but we still tossed out pounds of food everyday.

Pros

My experience working at Pret A Manger as a Team Leader was extremely stressful. During the hiring process, I was told I would have at least one weekend day off, but that promise was not kept. The workload was overwhelming. The company frequently operated while short-staffed, and there was constant pressure to work double shifts. The pay did not reflect the level of responsibility expected of a Team Leader. Another issue was the work culture. If you called out sick or needed time off, there was often pressure to come in, even on your scheduled days off. I also did not enjoy the location where I worked, and I did not feel that the company valued or respected its employees.

Cons

You get free food the only good part of working here.
