Pros
Travelers is a solid Fortune 500 company which has withstood the 2008 economic downturn with considerable strength. Its stock prices have held strong while competitor The Hartford has faced significant losses. There have been no threats of layoffs, but instead has created a committee to lead an Alternative Work Arrangement Project, with hopes of increasing employees abilities to telecommute (ie work from home). This will save both the company and the employee money, and it saves the employee time that would have been spent commuting.
Cons
As Travelers is a very large company, the positives and negatives can vary greatly depending on the area and department that you work in. My experience with Travelers is within the Finance Department. It is within this department that opportunities for promotions are fewer than compared to similar positions in other companies I have worked for, largely because prior experience is given little consideration. Also I have experienced instances where employees are viewed negatively for voicing complaints and/or suggestions.
