Pros

Benefits, PTO, Work from Home and Co-workers. The only reason I go to work everyday, besides a paycheck, is for my co-workers.

Cons

My department is like re-living a bad high school nightmare. If you belong in the clique then you'll get good raises and bonuses. You'll get the best claims to handle and all the best projects to work on. If you don't fit the mold that they are looking for you are nothing more than a warm body. The new open concept is the biggest joke. This company is about 10 years behind everyone else. There is no collaboration, just rows and rows of people with their heads down wearing noise cancelling head phones. There is no privacy and the morale is so bad that co-workers sometimes spend time hiding in the stalls in the bathroom seeking privacy and quiet. There is absolutely no cell service in this brand new building so to take any call people have to go outside. There are days when it looks like there is a track around the building there are so many people walking around talking on their phones. Management in my department is so arrogant and rude. They only speak to the chosen few and ignore the rest of us. They are constantly saying that we can bring any issue to them but if you do, you're the problem. They even tolerate sexual harassment, as long as the chosen are doing the harassing. This is the most depressing, soul sucking place I have ever worked. Can't wait to get out of here!

Pros

We receive continuous training to stay up to date with new state regulations and market trends. My colleagues make the day go by quickly. The benefits are very reasonable. There is room for career growth if you know how to network. I appreciate their consistent push for community volunteer opportunities.

Cons

The personal lines department seems to be falling apart right now. Issues with the internal systems are resulting in underwriters doing multiple jobs and becoming a dumping ground for all agent issues even if they aren't underwriting related. I don't feel that the directors are truly expressing to the senior leadership team the impact that all these issues are having on the mental health and quality of life for the employees that are on the front lines trying to maintain a good reputation for the company. It's sad to see how quickly this department has gone downhill and the amount of quality underwriters that are jumping ship for different departments or different companies all together. What's even sadder it that no one with authority seems to care, or listen, when concerns are brought forth. I truly advise anyone considering applying for any position within the personal insurance department to hold off until things start to change - it's not worth the mental anguish that you'll experience.
