Pros

Great career development if your put in the work. I was promoted 3 times in less than 2 years and went from low $40's to high $60's in the same time frame. Lower management is some of the best I have ever seen. Most unit managers really try their best for their team to feel valued.

Cons

The company is currently chronically understaffed in most departments and throughout most of its territories in the US. The staffing issues cause increased workload for the employees that are left and most of the time no stretch bonuses or retention incentives are being given so more people are either switching to departments with lower work loads, or leaving the company for competitors, this in turn makes the staffing issues even worse. Work-life balance is currently horrible. Long hours in salary jobs with no bonuses or incentives.

Pros

We receive continuous training to stay up to date with new state regulations and market trends. My colleagues make the day go by quickly. The benefits are very reasonable. There is room for career growth if you know how to network. I appreciate their consistent push for community volunteer opportunities.

Cons

The personal lines department seems to be falling apart right now. Issues with the internal systems are resulting in underwriters doing multiple jobs and becoming a dumping ground for all agent issues even if they aren't underwriting related. I don't feel that the directors are truly expressing to the senior leadership team the impact that all these issues are having on the mental health and quality of life for the employees that are on the front lines trying to maintain a good reputation for the company. It's sad to see how quickly this department has gone downhill and the amount of quality underwriters that are jumping ship for different departments or different companies all together. What's even sadder it that no one with authority seems to care, or listen, when concerns are brought forth. I truly advise anyone considering applying for any position within the personal insurance department to hold off until things start to change - it's not worth the mental anguish that you'll experience.
