Pros

- Not too stressed. But when deadlines are approaching, people begin to panic. - As someone new to the corporate world, most people are nice and willing to answer any questions.

Cons

- 1 hour commute to office just to work on a computer when I could be doing that same thing wfh and then 1 hr commute back (waste of gas, money, time, and sleep) - Have to pay for your own parking (company owns their own garage and you'll still have to pay to park in it, or in other parking garages around downtown) and company does not provide free coffee - If you're unlucky, team/manager will micromanage. For example, forced to work over 8 hours most days for the convenience of others even when you've completed your tasks and at a good place to stop for the day - Ranked against others (it is quite obvious) for raise/bonuses which are not guaranteed and "performance based" - Have to be close and super friendly with your manager in order to obtain a positive performance review for the bonus/raise

Pros

We receive continuous training to stay up to date with new state regulations and market trends. My colleagues make the day go by quickly. The benefits are very reasonable. There is room for career growth if you know how to network. I appreciate their consistent push for community volunteer opportunities.

Cons

The personal lines department seems to be falling apart right now. Issues with the internal systems are resulting in underwriters doing multiple jobs and becoming a dumping ground for all agent issues even if they aren't underwriting related. I don't feel that the directors are truly expressing to the senior leadership team the impact that all these issues are having on the mental health and quality of life for the employees that are on the front lines trying to maintain a good reputation for the company. It's sad to see how quickly this department has gone downhill and the amount of quality underwriters that are jumping ship for different departments or different companies all together. What's even sadder it that no one with authority seems to care, or listen, when concerns are brought forth. I truly advise anyone considering applying for any position within the personal insurance department to hold off until things start to change - it's not worth the mental anguish that you'll experience.
