Pros
Some of the colleagues make it almost worthwhile working there. Some of the managers are compassionate and listen to you, although their hands are tied due to the power that the directors have over everyone.
Cons
I don't even know where to start... Working here (head office employee) has left me and many others scarred for life (mentally and emotionally). Old fashioned/chaotic way to run a business. Undervalued and overworked (including terrible pay for the long hours you work- 8.30-5.30 or 6pm for management). Statutory sick pay. Pay docked if you have a doctors appointment. If you are more than 3 minutes late, you will get 15 minutes pay docked. The strict and unreasonable work culture that the directors have in place means that everyone is miserable and puts the fear of god in employees, creating mental health issues for many. Sexual harassment and assault by the directors seems to be the norm in this workplace, along with blatant sexism. HR are ok, however, their hands are tied due to being a private company, meaning that they can't/ don't want to really help you, just the bare minimum. Pretty sure the way they handle some things aren't even legal. Zero training offered, meaning you are left to guess how everything works, waiting to be shouted at/blamed for doing it wrong. No processes put in place meaning that the whole workplace is a shambles; creating a ridiculous amount of stress, tension and miscommunication amongst everyone. Listening to music is banned and most people don't have any access to the internet- it's like being back in the 70's. CCTV everywhere, which makes everyone paranoid and on edge. The intimidation from the directors trickles down through the managers to the rest of the staff, which makes you feel like your job is constantly on the line. Virtually no career progression, or, take on more work for the same money. Weirdly, the directors are loyal to their managers, even if they are absolutely useless, incompetent and have lost them considerable amounts of money each year. Some managers will blame you for things that they have done wrong, in order to keep their own job safe. This has resulted in employees recording/ emailing everything in order to keep a track of the constant contradictions by the manager and to stop you being reprimanded for something you didn't do. This is NOT NORMAL- you shouldn't have to resort to this every time you work with your manager and creates even more stress for yourself. Some management will manipulate and play mind games with you; treating you like a child. Zero benefits (including the pointless discount on clothing that is already ridiculously overpriced and terrible quality). No flexible working, despite the numerous employees with young kids. Ironic, because the directors all have big families. Unnecessary drug and alcohol testing. They don't care about their customers at all or investing in marketing- it's all about making a quick buck for the directors.
