Pros

- Benefits: Gym, Message, 4:30 leave on Friday (subjected to terms and condition) - Daily fruits - Like everywhere there are some good employees.

Cons

1. Punishing culture: For e.g., If you forget to fill in time sheet due to their confusing system, you will be locked out from most of the online activities. For e.g., not able access anything except email. In 2018, the company that claim to focus on people should not promote fear and punishment. Advice: Forgive, Remind, Notify and Repeat. 2. Micro Managed: In fact every thing you do is micro managed by Project Manager. If you spend few hours on research or learning you will be told company don't have budget for this! Suggestion: In addition to giving 2 hrs a week for gym, give employee at least 4 hrs in the personal development and growth. Of course, without terms and condition like if everything get's done because that is a vague requirement. Just having access to linda.com is not enough. Give them working hour time to explore the resource! 3. Stress and Overtime: If you expect employee to do overtime them please pay for them. In employee's contract, it is specified that employee may be required to do overtime without pay and this has happened. To expect employees to work or not compensate employee who work extra time is just like taking expensive bottle of champagne from supermarket and not paying for it. Advice: Work is not everything. Employees may have other commitment beside work. Respect. 4. Getting things done right: Getting things done properly is important than just getting it done quickly. Like every digital agency, my department focus of getting things done quickly. Pressure to estimate time to get in done fast. If you add additional time for e.g. testing, documentation, team collaboration then PM's eyebrow are raised. Advice: Be different and choose quality over delivering task in rush. 5. Agile working is NOT really working: Agile can only work if there are enough desks, uniform hardware, good internet connection. There are plenty of space around office to accommodate stylish sofa and chairs but not enough humble desks. First stress of the day is if you can find a desk, or if the desk available have right monitor, internet connection or comfortable chair. Advice: It is nearly 2 and half month since this Agile approach have been adopted, so no more excuse please. 5. Poor communication in a department. For e.g., you may come to the office and notice a staff you worked with yesterday have left or see few new faces. Just a few example of many. Advice: Communicate, inform and don't think employees or colleague below you position is not too significant to be informed! 6. Not to mention pay package is not competitive. Advice: If working environment is good and employee are valued they may not worry too much about pay and would be excited to work on Monday and sad on Friday.

Pros

The usual agency pros...great social culture, laid back environment, lots of occasions for workshops and events with Google but also Linkedin and Facebook. Young grads can grow very fast and become managers in 2-3 years, salaries higher than other agencies if you negotiate right.

Cons

Their relationship with Google is not equal as they like to claim. Google has the data and calls the shots, Essence is there to organise campaigns and get them live, often causing long hours and high amounts of stress. Your experience at Essence will depend a lot on your pod, your client and your manager so make sure you are aware on how you'll fit into it. Managers are highly skilled but often inexperienced when it comes to soft skills and acceptance of different ways of working and perspectives.

Pros

They have a well-known client, Google, with great projects. Depending on the team, if you are lucky you'll find yourself in a really friendly atmosphere where you'll always be helped. Culture used to be amazing, that kind of culture that everyone was feeling proud of, however, in Jan 2015 everything changed.

Cons

Since it is really dependant on Google, everything they ask for needs to be done, even if it makes no sense, senior management will push everyone to get it done, even if it's something completely random. There was a massive loose of talent as per the pressure from that random projects, everyone was going crazy. If the "cool" party crowd accepted you in their group of friends you would become well-known and recognised. If you are a more shy person, there is no room for you at Essence, or if there is, you are not going to grow. There is a culture of "showing off" so if you are an introvert, it is going to be hard that the senior levels recognise your work, even if you are the one who work the hardest.
