Lacking competent leadership

Pros

This may be a pro to some: due to lack of leadership, there's a lot of autonomy. Therefore, the pushy and motivated can essentially play any role they want and likely climb the ladder quickly, regardless of their skill level.

Cons

There is a complete lack of leadership which trickles down to the entire team, resulting in an ego-driven and uninspiring environment where there are blurry roles, lack of transparency, zero accountability, no hiring competence, and time and resources are wasted on senseless projects. There's hardly any big picture vision, but a lot of micro management, creating a monotonous and spiritless work environment.

Pros

For the first ~6 months, it felt like a great place to work and that you were part of growing something bigger. Unfortunately, that didn't last long.

Cons

The company lacked any clear direction whatsoever. Priorities were always changing, often weekly, with little justification. Decisions were made on a whim with limited data or research to support. Furthermore, the company preferred to use more favorable data from unknown sources in projections and marketing materials, rather than doing their due diligence to find accurate and reliable data. New plans, processes and strategies were always being developed but never given the appropriate time to achieve an outcome. There was always a new "flavor of the week" which left the company "spinning the tires" with no progress forward. On top of it all, the flexibility and employee-centered culture that the company was so proud of was nowhere to be seen. Employees were questioned on anything and everything, with leaders trying to exert far too much control over their employees' lives. Micromanagement is a critical issue.
