Pros

The goal of FamilySearch is to connect people to their families and ultimately to each other. The company’s mission is a noble one. Pros include: - good coworkers - decent health benefits

Cons

The company is drunkenly lurching side to side, sometimes even taking steps backward, in pursuit of their goal. Cons include: - 4 days in office policy that is almost completely at odds with the last four years of touted ‘good job working remotely’, complete with gaslighting explanations as to why. For a company so keen on promoting the family, this policy forces the young and the women to choose between having a job or having a baby. - no growth path for the majority of workers. Only the chosen few get to really progress, and many of those come with a ‘mandate from God’ attitude towards their promotions. - another participant in the 401k retirement scheme - huge fans of open-office concept, which kills concentration with a call-center feeling - actively discourages anything personal in the office, making the area feel more sterile than a hospital - upper management decisions are completely numbers-driven - the company is obsessed with the ‘do more with less’ mentality, encouraging shortcuts and leading to tremendous errors in datasets and an abysmal UX experience - sales and marketing rule the roost, while the subject matter experts are told to fall in line

Pros

Great coworkers, and the work itself is great though it changes a lot

Cons

High upper management is showing a deep lack of trust by mandating everyone returns to working from the office 4 days a week by August 2024, even though reports show higher efficiency and greater creativity when most work is done from home. This is distressing to the workforce to the point that many are considering leaving. The changes are causing regression, a stark contrast from the progression made during the pandemic and the couple of years since.

Pros

Work-life balance is great. Immediate management cares about employees. You get to work in an area that you can really believe in.

Cons

The new generation of upper (3+) level management doesn't listen to the employees on the ground. They appear to listen, but never make any changes in their behavior or direction. They seem to just plow forward in directions that do not make sense. They are only interested in getting the employees on board with their plan. They have eliminated the technical career path. If you don't want to be a people manager, then you will only ever be an individual contributor. They no longer have pure technical leadership. They even opted to not replace the CTO when he retired. The recently eliminated remote work and have opted for a hybrid model with the reason being culture.
