Pros

Must be able to work independently and not rely on management. (Pro and con)

Cons

Horrible Administration with a high turnover rate. Our department had 7 employees leave in less than 2 years and none were replaced, in essence leaving 3 people to do the job of 10. HR and supervisors refused requests for special accommodations due to injury. Supervisors refused raises and (back) pay after I left. No raises are ever given. Administration is completely clueless as to what their programs are, what the community needs are and/or how to implement them. EVERYTHING is about money and nothing about the people matter. Would definitely not recommend working there.

Pros

I had the best coworkers. Great health and benefits.

Cons

Everything...the higher-ups destroyed the company by losing multiple contracts. Overworked and underpaid staff. Huge turn over rate. Over 30 people quit by the time I left. I had at least 20 clinicians in my team. As of now, only two stayed.

Pros

- You get to help people in rough situations find safety and support

Cons

- The shelter advocate often works alone in the shelter and plays the following rolls: office admin, maid, data entry specialist, security guard, baby sitter, counselor, and 24-hour crisis hotline operator. All for $10 an hour.
