I have been working at FirstPort full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

This company really lives it’s values, people are Friendly, you are given space to be Inventive and create new things, you are treated with Respect, given support to improve your Skills and Trusted to deliver your work well and in the best way for both you and the business. The exec and senior managers here are genuinely friendly and, in my experience, quite open to conversation with all staff - it doesn’t seem hierarchical....

    Cons

The business is in the process of a digital transformation so while that is happening there are still a few processes that are unwieldy and old fashioned but this does seem to now be a temporary situation

    Advice to Management

Stay the course, the current direction looks great and it feels like it is already paying off

I worked at FirstPort full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

It’s a job. You can look elsewhere while you are here

    Cons

Fight for parking spaces. Plenty of places to buy a lunch as long as it’s ASDA. IT is a serious mess. Lack of investment and or enthusiasm from the management. Your opinion does not count. Come 5pm, the place empties.

    Advice to Management

Take advice from the people your chose to hire.

I have been working at FirstPort part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Autonomy, consistency, lots of scope for progression if wanted.

    Cons

The IT is not brilliant. Purchasing system is cumbersome and means we are unable to engage local suppliers which often means extra expense and also added time.

    Advice to Management

Give the development managers the ability to engage local suppliers where possible, and enable spending for the site outside of the limits of what is available via P2P. This would result, in many cases, in considerable cost-savings to the developments. Centrally sourced suppliers are all very well, but the sites are so individual, it is sometimes very inappropriate.

I worked at FirstPort full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Very supportive when needed to be. Lovely staff. Lots of training. Excellent benefits. Always up to date with technology.

    Cons

Career progression only for some, constant brick walls met without explanation. General mistrust in senior / middle management / some Linr Managers for above reason. Very small pay increments, if any. Hard work isn't recognised. No structure for external exams needed to progress so if your Line Manager is a bit 'off hand' with you, you don't stand a chance.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the one rule for and one rule for others ethos. Also get rid of having to ask Line Manager for permission to ask for study support or career progression because sometimes the Line Manager isn't as good at their job as they should be. Have a solid structure run by HR or Learning and Development so an employee can by supported properly, and if permission isn't given there's no problem discussing it, whereas...

    I worked at FirstPort part-time

    Pros

Lovely residents, and some great colleagues, which helps when you are a Lone Worker.

    Cons

Unrealistic workload under the company now known as First Port. More and more pressure is put upon Development Managers, and a yearly salary increase which was pitiful.

    Advice to Management

Pay those at the heart of the business a decent salary, reflecting the level of responsibility that is now placed upon them.

I have been working at FirstPort full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The senior management team do a short video every month, so even though there are 3,000+ people in the company you can see who the Exec are, and keep in touch with how the company's doing. Everyone I work with wants to 'do the right thing', and tries hard to do it. This year the employees voted to make Centrepoint the company's charity for 2019. I think that will be a terrific partnership for us and the charity. ...

    Cons

It's great having a clear desk policy and tidy office where I work - and being able to work from home when it's convenient to my team - but without a personal locker it means always having to take one's laptop and work documents with you after work, which can be really inconvenient if you're meeting friends or going for a night out.

I worked at FirstPort full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The hours can be good if you get a 8-4 shift. Some of the members of the team are friendly and kind. You get weekends off

    Cons

Ridiculous work load. Toxic work environment. Management don’t care about staff. The company is constantly changing and doesn’t keep customer service in the loop. Training is shocking.

    Advice to Management

Management need to learn how to do their jobs without pre judging others. Both operations managers don’t care about staff and only about the stats on the board. Worked here for over a year and neither ever said bye to me after knowing for 4 weeks I was leaving (I’m not the only one they do this too) they pretend they care and then will do anything to catch people out so it fits their narrative. Absolutely shocking place...
