Pros

You get great opportunities and visibility when the leaders suddenly have no interest in doing their own work; however, the compensation doesn't match the work. Good news is they're actually paying people well who are just coming into the door, but not sure if it's worth the cons. They at least try to pretend they care.

Cons

Mental exhaustion! You get to perform multiple roles for not even the market cost of one. Toxic work environment. Unorganization starts at the top, which is scary. No accountability from any of the leaders. Founders (which there are multiple due to too many acquisitions at once) are territorial have not done well with merging. VERY MANUAL. No tools or automation to help you perform your 3 jobs efficiently. Their definition of process placement is passing the work to whoever can do it, even if that person is already overloaded and it doesn't belong in their department. Turnover has gotten very high and consistent. Finance thinks best practice is to keep hiring more sales to bring in more revenue although there is hardly any operational support left. I also wonder how Finance determines budgets when reporting has been non-existent and inconsistent from the beginning of all the merging. You would think with all the companies that came together there would be some that have the technology needed to get the work done effectively. Oh, lack of diversity in leadership...yes, people DO notice. The culture committee came together and culture committed suicide...it is non-existent.

Pros

There are some truly intelligent people on the teams, which is a great thing to work beside because it allows for personal and professional growth despite the company not providing explicit opportunities for that. There are also some amazing technologies being built here. Career paths may be opening up as well as they continue to purchase other companies, but I would be wary because I'm not sure how long the company will stay as-is before they try to sell for a profit.

Cons

Culture: it's paper thin. They tell you they have their 'Core Values', but it's really a mechanism for them to tell you to work harder every quarter. They push monthly company events on the entire company, like watching a virtual magic show, because they think this is what 'culture' means. They don't realize that a good company culture includes valuing your employees as humans, offering opportunities for personal and professional growth, and other things along those lines. We're not here for the mocktail-how-to's, we're here for the compensation, benefits, and resources, all of which Fortis lags severely behind their competitors. Management: there are some gems here and there in management, but they're relics from before the company brought in the investment group and started acquiring various companies, so I'm not sure how much longer they'll stick around. Most of the management, especially the C-level, has no idea how to manage people. They will let their mid-level management get away with egregious offenses (mostly because these are either family members or favorites they brought over with them from previous jobs), but then when someone finally voices a concern, they act like they weren't aware and try to find a scape-goat. If you're looking for accountability, it doesn't exist here. Work Load: The concept of work-life balance doesn't exist for anyone below the C-level. They expect 45 hours minimum of work a week for salaried employees, and this doesn't include your break times, so your dreams of a 9-5 schedule are quickly disintegrated. Many employees sacrifice lunch breaks to try to keep a normal schedule. Working from home (which you're lucky if you're offered that)? You better have your camera on for every single meeting, otherwise you'll be questioned about not actually working those 45 hours. As far as the work load, it varies by department, but the overall feeling is that no one has time to complete the work they're assigned. Personally, I was doing the work of three different people, and even when someone was hired in to take part of that over, somehow more work was found for me to do.

Pros

Only "pro" is learning some new skills, but that's only because I had to pick up the responsibilities and workloads of others after they quit. And don't expect to be compensated for it either.

Cons

They will take everything they can from you and more and that's just expected of you. Every day is like treading water. You put out the fires you can and try to stay sane but nothing works. Fortis doesn't care about you. Benefits and vacation are terrible. You only get the federal holidays off and a few more days. They make you feel guilty for taking any vacation or if you have to leave for an emergency. Heard that the medical benefits were better a couple years ago, but now it's more expensive with less coverage. They will hire you for the lowest amount possible. If you're incredibly lucky you MAY get a raise at your annual review, but don't expect it even if you're exceeding their expectations. It's frustrating to hear execs talk about their fancy houses, trips and cars when they won't pay employees a decent wage. If you look at some of the other reviews, nearly half of the 5-star are within a week of each other. Four of those are from the same day. Wouldn't be surprised if they asked some of the favorites to leave good reviews. The review from February 26, 2022 is by "EVP, Marketing". He's one of the founders of Fortis. If you aren't well-liked for any reason, your job will be 10x harder and they won't listen to anything you say. Some of the things I saw or heard were incredibly questionable, but they're "better than before". Yikes. Look at the other 1-star reviews because they're right. They will say anything to get you through the door. Don't trust them. Anywhere is better than here.
