I worked at Foster + Partners full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Multidisciplinary approach to architecture. Intelligent people. Great facilities. Diverse projects. Inclusiveness. Approachable, and available executives.

    Cons

Occasional poor management at the lower level. Unclear task management and lack of task tracking system. Inflexible working hours, long hours, and unpaid additional work. Work/life balance is difficult, and consequently, the growth within the company is affected. In most projects, the team has to deliver extra and unrequired work, without additional payment or a choice to opt-out; this is usually not required by upper management and happens at the lower level.

I worked at Foster + Partners full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Name on your CV. Subsidized lunch. Around £2.50 for a full slap up meal at lunch which is unheard of in London. Free food if you work late (there's an entire dinner service in the evening - the fact that this even exists is an example the sheer number of people having to work extra hours daily).

    Cons

Huge 1000+ person company. Too big to have any real sense of culture. Every day is like going to a club with 8 people you know and 992 that you don't. Minute cog in a huge machine. Easily replaceable. High turnover - lots of former employees having this on their CV diminishes the weight of having it on yours. Only working on small parts of large projects. Lack of mentoring. Work hours more like 9am-8/9pm.
