Cons
Fairbanks Memorial Hospital used to be THE place to get a job. It is no longer and is a joke of an institution. Radiology specifically is incredibly toxic. High turnover rate, micromanaging senior management who hasn't met with staff entire time there and think they are above everyone. Staff walking out at the same time because they cannot stand their supervisor micromanaging them as well. Shutting down multiple modalities time and time again due to staffing issues. It is inappropriate and an absolute mess. Thinking about being an MR tech here? Well, they are looking to outsource that job since they cannot retain any staff due to incompetence of the manager and director. Instead of asking themselves "Why doesn't anyone want to work here?" they ask themselves "Can we just outsource this job?" While this department is being gutted and high paying jobs are likely being outsourced, the incompetent senior management may be taking their big salary and spending it outside of the Fairbanks community. How can a senior manager of such a massive department live elsewhere? There are a lot of other places to work in Alaska. Fairbanks already has massive issues (cold, dark winters and so distant from everything) that it takes a little effort to keep people around. We were told "I've had entire departments walk out on me," like it was a badge of honor, by a senior manager. Getting a job here now would be like boarding the Titanic so you can play with the band as the ship goes down. Stay far, far away.
