Rewarding job with opportunities to meet lovely students. Shame that it was ruined by Senior Management.
Pros
It was nice to feel that we (the on-site team) were making a difference, creating a feeling of home for the students and getting to know them. Building up relationships with the on-site team. We all had our strengths and we supported one another. Working with various different organisations and helping to improve the overall student experience, whilst also learning new things. Opportunity to progress but usually, this is because they want to get rid of someone and you’re just lucky to be next in line.
Cons
Lack of support from Senior Management. There were a couple of people who were just completely horrible - no other words to describe them. No compassion for the young people to whom we had a duty of care to. Without going into detail, there were a few questionable decisions made by those higher up. If they are unhappy or think you are a threat to the business or if you know too much, they will do everything they can to drive you out. Work/life balance is impossible to keep. This was a common thing for staff at all levels. Of course, the difference is that those working higher up, earn 30/40K more, but some don’t have a clue what they’re doing. Extremely negative work culture being led by individuals who are lacking in empathy, who spread gossip, manipulating and backstabbing other employees.
