The owner presents himself as all-knowing and is often dismissive of others’ ideas and opinions. Constructive feedback or encouragement is rare; instead, criticism is frequent, and employees are left to figure things out on their own. There is little sense of mentorship or team spirit—staff are treated strictly as employees, with no feeling of belonging or support. Favoritism is evident, especially among those close to management, and office politics are widespread. The focus is solely on clients and revenue, with little recognition for employee contributions. HR lacks effectiveness, is often late, and does not communicate well or drive innovation. Overall, the company culture feels toxic and unsupportive, making it difficult to thrive beyond simply collecting a paycheck. In my experience, this has been one of the most challenging advertising agency environments to work in.
