Pros

Lots of opportunity to learn skills on email/phone support with clients, SQL database skills, experience with teaching multi day courses to clients with options to travel to places in Canada/USA to train new clients. The people in client services are awesome, genuine people. Very easy to develop good relationships with and learn from. Everyone I worked with went above and beyond to help me learn and be a better employee.

Cons

Work Environment: Quiet/boring workspace. You are only there to work. (upper) Management: Not laid back enough. I felt like every minute of my time was being tracked. It was not overly difficult to book time off, but in comparison with my new position, I felt that there was a lot less trust placed in me as an employee (of Georef). It was needlessly stressful/ annoying to have to worry about booking a 2 hour appointment 3 days ahead of time and getting it approved by upper management.I know I am not the only employee who has worked for Georef that felt that they were not given enough trust/respect when it came to responsibilities. Vacation : Start with 2 weeks of vacation. This lasts for 5 years and for anyone who stays that long, they will be granted three weeks of vacation. This pushes employees to have to use paid sick days as vacation days. At my new position, where I started with 3 weeks of vacation, I can use sick days for when they are actually needed. This greater amount of freedom really motivates me to work harder, be happier, and get more done. Pay: 7-10 k salary below average. They will only give you the bare minimum. From what I saw, you could qualify for a 2k bonus for working hard and travelling a lot.

Pros

Location of business is close to some amenities, but lunch is so short you need to rush if you want to eat out. Lots of parking Other staff were mostly friendly

Cons

Owner was not great at managing staff, often short-sighted and didn't feel like he cared about the work being done. He was on vacation most of the summer but parked his Porsche, ATVs, and Jet skis in the building's garage so you knew what he was able to afford vs how he treated staff. Very religious owner, this itself isn't a con, but the saying of grace for work dinners or conferences was very off putting as someone who is not christian.

Pros

Team: Great team to work with! Work Experience (?): You can likely use it as a stepping stone to get some reasonable experience for your next job. But consider carefully if the cons are worth it (see below.)

Cons

Straightforward "cons": **No recommendations** - Unwritten policy against recommendations. They won't tell you this till the day you ask a manager for a recommendation. Working here for more than a year or so could really hurt your career. **Low Pay** - Very low pay compared to similar positions at other tech companies. **Minimal Benefits** - The limited group benefits they offer are deducted from your pay. **Vacations** - Only 2 weeks. **Vacation Reset** - Vacation & flex time are reset every year. Previously, they would carry vacation time over upon request, but they have announced they will no longer be doing this. **Distrust** - Extreme distrust from upper management causes an over all atmosphere of fear and distrust. **Heavy micromanaging** - Recently made more official and more intense. **Toxic management culture** - Sharing positive thoughts, ideas or enthusiasm can get you in trouble. Some items that could be pros turn into cons because of how the management handles them: **Work-life balance** - This would be OK, but the constant threat of being fired, or that you're being spied on by management, makes worry & stress eat into your personal life. **Flex time** - The company offers flex time but keeps adding petty adjustments to the policy that accomplish nothing but a slap in the face for employees. Also, flex time is pretty rigid, and not flexible despite the name. **Weird & Obsessive** - A small family business could be friendly, but instead makes it easier for upper management to focus on weird & quirky obsessions that define how they interact with staff.
