I named this review "Death by Spreadsheet" because my time at Global Widget albeit a short one, was a slow death by spreadsheet.
Global Widget is a marketing company masquerading as a legitimate cbd production company with a huge Inventory problem.
I should have known that looking at reviews of Global Widget on Glassdoor ranging from 5 stars to 1 star reviews with no 2, 3, or 4 star review that their HR are writing reviews and disgruntled employees are writing the other ones.
My time at Global Widget was short. I was salary. I was also told I could not take breaks and had to stay by my desk when I wasn't counting. My work was constantly being checked and scrutinized, while other employees sleep at their station. I worked about 10 weeks before I gave my 2 week notice, and then a few days later I was asked to leave.
When I gave my 2 weeks notice, it was like a death sentence for me. No member of management or HR acknowledged my presence. It was like I was dead. I was only talked to by other employees and not management. HR was non existent in terms of conversation as to why I was leaving. I was never given an exit interview.
My supervisor and director never talked to me again after my notice was given. Funny thing is they were the reason I put in my notice. I never was asked about my experience in Inventory, Supply Chain and Logistics fields. I spoke, but never was heard. I never was utilized correctly, and skillfully to my talents. I was just told to count, count and count.
When I had suggestions to improve processes, I was shut down. My supervisor at the time liked to withhold information that was pertinent to tasks, and then leave that critical information out so you could find it, if you could. So you would look for a sku for 2 hours and your supervisor knew the item was discontinued and could not be found and would tell you this after you inquired that you couldn't find said item.
Also, spreadsheet after spreadsheet you were given to update. If you made a mistake the supervisor put you on another spreadsheet to track your mistakes. Everything we did in the Inventory department had a spreadsheet. The whole time I was there it was very archaic with their Inventory practices with counting, labeling and locating inventory. Weekly meetings that could have been in emails. Supervisor would barrage you with information and then leave for a meeting.
I also would like to state that my supervisor and director were new to the company when I worked there, and that in my time there we lost 2 employees. The supervisor and director mindset to the lost of those 2 employees were "We can spread the position to all other positions". Like the other employees wouldn't notice.
Global Widget has a typical skilled staff, but not skilled workforce. So the English translation was difficult at times if you don't speak Spanish. Again, everyone knew what everyone made hourly, and this affected morale at times. Certain employees were allowed to get away with stuff, while other employees were overly scrutinized.
Constant change to business due to knee jerk reactions. Global Widget loves their meetings, and loves the change from those meetings too. Company was always changing when it didn't have too.
Lastly, I recommend anyone reading this not to work at Global Widget. Read the reviews. There is a reason for the stark contrast in 5 star reviews to 1 star reviews. There's no in between. Please take that as a warning sign.
Here are some of the cons I experienced at Global Widget:
- Using Quickbooks Accounting software as an Inventory Software/measurement tool.
- No Inventory Management Software. All transactions are handwritten before entering in quickbooks. No scan guns. Just spreadsheets in dimly lit warehouses.
- Hot shot Supervisor who promised big things to Upper Management, but never managed people before. Has to learn people skills. Has to stop putting unwarranted pressure on its employees.
- Lack of proper communication between staff, management and ownership.
- Death by spreadsheet. Spreadsheet after spreadsheet after spreadsheet.
- Director does not know to manage tone. Terrible human interaction skills. Never saw director. Always in office.
- Very low morale with in Plant. Everyone know what everyone makes.
- New Inventory team with moderate experience. I was the only person to have extensive knowledge of my field. Unnecessary pressure to the other Inventory team by giving them the work of 4 other people. Unfair.
