Pros

Located close by to good coffee shops.

Cons

Have never experienced such a toxic, unsupportive work environment. Employees are constantly overworked and expected to work 10 hour days as well as 12 hour days on weekends for seasonal events. 6, 7 and even 8pm finishes are normal as management are highly disorganised and expect everyone to work into the evening to complete tasks that are delegated at the last minute. Management have no people skills and do not communicate in a healthy, respectful, or constructive way. Employees are blamed for management failures, degraded in meetings ans disrespected in front of other employees. I have seen employees leave meetings in tears on multiple occasions. There is no positive feedback or encouragement given to employees, and you are often pulled into meetings to be berated, criticised and personally attacked. Management do not foster a safe or inclusive work environment, it is often tense/uncomfortable and sharing your issues or concerns is not welcomed. Employees are disrespected daily with no regard for their work life balance or mental health. Apply here if you want to be micromanaged constantly, overworked and scolded for getting along with your coworkers.

While we value every contribution, we don’t believe that your experience—or the commentary shared across each of your three consecutive reviews —accurately reflects the culture at Goodwill Projects. It is consistent with your approach and consideration of others during your short collective employment of less than 6 months. Each of the three individuals employed faced challenges in adapting to the high standards and dynamic nature of our roles. All were supported through performance and coaching processes. In each instance, the short tenure reflected a broader misalignment with our values, expectations, and the way we operate. At Goodwill Projects, our team—many of whom have been with us for several years—uphold a culture of respect, professionalism, and collaboration. These values are at the heart of everything we do. While this wasn’t reflected in each of your short periods of employment, we share responsibility. These experiences have reinforced the importance of careful consideration toward recruitment and a transparent onboarding process that clearly communicates why we care so deeply about ‘what we do’ and ‘how we do it.’ This, we hope, continues to inspire and connect us with dozens more incredible, motivated, positive, fun and just ‘great people’ as we continue to grow with future team members and leaders within our industry. We wish you all the best in your future endeavor's and hope you find a role and team that’s the right fit for you.

Pros

Some fantastic, undervalued team members Great office location, short walk to coffee shops Decent salary

Cons

Toxic Culture: Senior management lacks the ability to communicate effectively and constructively. Staff are blamed for management failures and disrespected in front of fellow employees. Meetings are fraught with shouting and degrading comments. Team members have been left in tears on numerous occasions. Rampant micromanagement: Managers don’t trust staff to perform tasks independently and waste team members’ time by repeatedly double-handling tasks. Managers are incredibly disorganised and dump last-minute 'urgent' tasks (i.e. tasks they've forgotten or ignored) on other team members without consideration. Undervaluing staff members: There is an expectation that every role is a ‘catch-all’, and team members are frequently expected to perform tasks outside their job description. There is a sense that anyone can do your job, and you’re easily replaceable. Positive reinforcement is virtually non-existent. False hiring pretence: Staff and interns are hired under false pretences, with staff members given misleading descriptions of their roles and interns used solely for menial tasks and free labour. Unrealistic Expectations: Senior management works obscene hours, well beyond the expected weekly 40, and expects all team members to follow suit. There is immense pressure to work a 9+ hour day. Team members are overloaded with tasks that are unachievable within the timeframes set by senior management, who lack an understanding of the time it takes to complete tasks. Lack of empathy: Senior management does not consider the mental or physical well-being of employees; there is an expectation that you will work regardless of illness (“Take a Panadol and get back to work”).

Feedback for Goodwill

Pros

Some nice team members. Good markets.

Cons

Felt unsafe working here as management were quite verbally abusive and they would often humiliate co-workers with people present. Most office and market workers are constantly on edge waiting for another outburst. Managers did not seem to learn from their mistakes or question why there is a high staff turnover.

Thank you for your feedback. We value the perspectives of our former team members and appreciate the opportunity to provide context. The Functions Manager role you held was based at Souths Leagues Club, a separate business and location from the Goodwill Projects (GWP) events team. When the decision was made to make that role redundant, we understood your preference to stay within the broader business and took this into account, exploring potential alternatives. During your time at the Club, we made consistent efforts to support your success in the role. One of the key responsibilities, clearly outlined in the job description and discussed during recruitment, was your presence on-site for booked functions and weekend events. These were non-negotiable requirements, given the operational nature of the role. Regrettably, ongoing unavailability during these critical times impacted our ability to meet client expectations and deliver events to standard. This led to the difficult decision to proceed with a redundancy. We approached this transparently and respectfully, aiming to provide feedback that would be constructive for any future roles you pursue in the industry.
