Great start up environment

Pros

GrantMe has some wonderful people working there with very diverse backgrounds. I really enjoyed my time with the company and I learned so much. Not only did I learn about sales but I also learned about the startup environment and how a business grows. I felt supported in my educator journey and was given lots of coaching and advice on how to improve. It was a very positive environment and we always had fun working together.

Cons

While the vision is clear and they help lots of students since it’s a startup lots of things change frequently. Your job will remain the same but tools might shift! Wouldn’t say it’s necessarily a con just apart of being a start up

Thanks for writing this great review :) We are very proud of our people. You're right that we have some amazing people from diverse backgrounds. Our team comes from all over the world and from all sorts of backgrounds. I'm pleased that you enjoyed your time at GrantMe and learned a lot. That's one of our biggest goals for all of our team. Great advice on ensuring that educators have the right coaching and mentorship. We're big on coaching and mentorship - and as we grow, we sometimes miss those details. So thank you for the reminder and we'll keep ensuring that that support is there for new educators joining in the future. Thanks gain for your time in writing this review :)

Culture is for a very specific type of person which wasn’t me

Pros

I met some really nice people while I was there but most of the people I was friends with don’t work there anymore so can’t say what it’s like now

Cons

Definitely have to like hustle culture and be ok with no work life balance and very limited time off. People were applauded for working on the weekend, really late and on holidays all the time. I also saw quite a few people get fired very shortly after starting for not being a “culture fit” and turnover was super high. There were a few elements that felt a little too micro managing for my style including having to write a report every day of what you did in a public slack channel and having to “restore integrity” if you joined a zoom meeting even 1 min late ( which meant basically explaining why you were late and what you’re gonna do to never be late again) . They also use “radical candor” which I’m not a fan of. to me it feels more like an excuse to be brutally honest and removed the element of professionalism from giving feedback. We had to be in office at least twice a week through all of COVID so keep that in mind if you’re looking for flexibility. These are just some things I would’ve liked to know before working here - maybe this type of culture works for some people but it definitely wasn’t for me

Thanks for your review. Appreciate the feedback and I agree with most of it. Specifically, we do expect meetings to start and end on time and we do use radical candour. Our goal with radical candour is to challenge directly while caring personally. And while it isn't for everyone, we do find that it helps to keep everyone on the same page. I'm sorry that it wasn't for you. Some context that is missing with that we did go fully remote when we were required to do so. We also stuck directly to the public health order guidelines throughout the pandemic. And we worked with employees who had specific health or family concerns throughout the pandemic to adjust their schedules. There definitely is a hustle culture here. And we are very particular about our culture, so we do let people go who are not a culture fit. This is definitely de facto for high-growth startups. It's also something we're working towards making more smooth and predictable as we grow and mature as a company. Some updates that we've made are 1) We've got a dedicated resource who is improving our hiring process to ensure that expectations are aligned prior to joining 2) Planning further into the future to prevent the late nights/weekends/holidays. While this isn't expected, it is appreciated and sometimes needed to complete the job. Thank you for the feedback. Sorry that it wasn't for you. And I wish you the best in your next role. I hope that it is a good fit for you :)

Pros

Great coworkers. That is all.

Cons

The 5 star reviews are posted to bury poor reviews. Shoddy work too. The last collection of 5 star reviews were all posted on the same day after a bunch of bad reviews. Underpaid. You do not get paid for stat holidays or overtime. No work life balance, days off are during the week because weekends have the best pickup rate. You have to ‘earn’ Saturdays and Sundays off by hitting unrealistic targets. Felt very experimental when I was there with so many drastic changes to procedure, seemed like they didn’t know what they were doing. A lot of reps went without breaks because of their back to back calls, which the CEO vehemently denies. CEO is quick to yell at employees. They make you sign a contract that you’ll give 4 weeks notice before quitting, but have fired people almost immediately after they put in their notice. Crazy turnover, I can name no former employees that were happy there. For a company that claims to be progressive, they do not care at all about their employees mental wellbeing. Their reddit reviews will show you how much they actually care about students too.
