Great people, culture and place to work

Pros

Excellent pension plan, benefits and collaborative working environment. There is a unique and special culture at HOOPP that is refreshing and our driving purpose is our pension promise.

Cons

COVID has hit every company hard and because of this we are working harder and longer hours. Better prioritization of projects from the top down to have better work life balance. We pay well but there is room for improvement. Leadership must pay attention to what is going on in this market.

Pros

1. An employer who take care of employees. Keep all employees safe during the peak of the pandemic. Gave extra $ to buys some office gear to help with working from home adjustments. Most companies spend months just trying to set their employees up with a laptop and vpn. HOOPP had all the gear, technology figured out so that we could do our jobs. This was priority 1. 2. You won’t work for a billionaire or faceless shareholders. Its core mission is to serve our amazing healthcare workers of Ontario. Every employee in HOOPP knows why they are here and are very proud of it. Providing our members with guaranteed retirement benefits is the mission we all come to work for every day. 3. Professional, Compassionate, Collaborative and Trustworthy (and I should add Diverse) work environment. In its our goals and we are measured on it. A company that is making transparent strides to be diverse in all manners. You can be who you are here at HOOPP. 4. Flexible working model. Some groups are working on establishing a Hybrid working model. HOOPP cares about their employees and the personal adjustments they will need to make to return to an office-based environment over time. The company promotes the value of employee connections, interactions, and staff engagement. 5. Amazing benefits, vacation time, work life balance days, training time, DB pension plan. 6. Downtown location 5 minutes away from the Union Station. Not great for all but can be considered in the middle for everyone in GTA. 7. Great colleagues who will have your back and support each other (clearly exceptions exist everywhere where some who think they are professionals are clearly weak based on their posts). 8. Great technology and IT department from the management to all the agile teams. These guys handle the technology for a $100 billion dollar fund. They are skilled and professional, how else would the technology for one of the most successful and biggest pension funds in the world be run? By luck? By incompetence, really? don't be fooled. The IT management and teams know not what they are doing. Contrary to previous posts. 8. Plenty of learning opportunities for those that want to. If you are a positive and goal focus individual then this is a place for you. Don’t let the negative posts from current or past negative employees fool you. Turnover rates in certain fields are always higher than others. IT people with certain skills are more marketable than others especially in fintech, Investment Management, security, or Finance. People will always leave for their own decisions, but it’s not because of the lies that are being stated by obvious disgruntled employees

Cons

1. HOOPP needs to stop being so compassionate and stop being patient with (small number) failed employees who clearly only get pleasure from posting negative things about their colleagues and work environment. Professionals would simply leave and not post harmful mistruths. 2. Be very clear, these tiny number of HOOPP employees obviously don’t understand the meaning or the values of the company and what HOOPP stands for. The vast majority of HOOPP staff do not feel these negative statements posted of late are true. Enough is enough.

Pros

-flexible wfh/hybrid structure -great management staff -generous bonuses -amazing pension plan - among the lowest contributions in the industry with one of the best benefit formulas out there (higher lifetime pension than others) -great location (1 York St) centrally located next to Union Station

Cons

-the position is a hybrid calls/processing job so expect some multi-tasking however you will get used to this structure in due time -not a very modern office setting although they are will do a reno to re-configure the layout -some tenure staff don't seem the most friendliest but perhaps this is due mainly online interactions and not getting to know people in person -union which can lead to difficulties in removing disgruntled individuals -negative energy/animosity displayed by old timers who don't realize this is much better than other places

Pros

- great company with good benefits and pension plan

Cons

Look at the recent reviews, and they are all true - bad and good ones. There is inconsistency of experiences depending on what team you work in IT-ISG. There were changes in leadership and there was a hope for better structure and fairness. Some teams are functioning great, supporting each other and those are people who write positive reviews here.. But people who were part of the rotten culture stayed and got promoted and continue bullying and playing their dirty games. They hired their friends and supporters, they persecute whoever they don't like. Not many speak up because there is no trust anymore, people are scared to be forced out as it happened before and those responsible are still around. Most of newly promoted leadership is unprofessional and granted too much power. They are not good role models - rude in emails, showing unprofessional and bullying behaviour in meetings. Newly appointed higher leadership either is too naive to see it or does not want to get involved and pretends all is going well. I hope they will act soon and if not - there will be another wave of people leaving...

Pros

Being part of their pension plan is the only thing going for them. Salary is subpar

Cons

-No advancement opportunities -There is one male employee who constantly offends others, is rude and extremely condescending (your quintessential white male narcissist) who is protected by mgmt and senior mgmt despite numerous complaints from many employees. Worse still, he was promoted within the team which makes one question the company culture and type of environment they are trying to foster -Many high-performing member service specialists including myself have left because of poor pay, the mental anguish of handling 70+ calls per day and being expected to process admin work while taking calls, the attitude we had to endure from these certain people who are protected by mgmt, and the extreme micro management
