Pros

Contract work. They pay for necessary training & licensing. Open enrollment period for health insurance. If you already work in the field and are just working to supplement income, will work for you as temp work for a few months in the busiest time of year for health insurance sales.Base hourly rate plus spiffs (no residuals or true commissions). Rich employee pool from all different fields looking to make a career change. Employees add a great dimension for good networking contacts going forward. We all learned a lot from each other in the process.

Cons

Carrot held out for permanent employment which rarely happens. Lots of politics. They use stack ranking as a reason to lay off. Stack ranking takes points off for any deviation of your schedule of work, whether requested by manager, or approved by managemnet. Most employees kept on are not there because of performance, but who they are friends with in the company. They make a lot promises and do not keep them. Micromanagement in all areas. Bonuses, rules, everything changes from day to day. There is a lack of stabilllity at almost all levels of employment. Each carrier has different rules according to individual contracts. Employees get moved around projects a lot. The only consistency with this company is their inconsistency. They are a churn and burn. They are opening another office for next enrollment period in Phoenix Metro--it will be the same-churn & burn, lack of employee stability, no benefits as outlined on website except for the few permanent employees.Run-dont walk!

Pros

The absolute best thing about working for HPO is you get plenty of laughs every time your trainer or manager says something. Oh and the vending machine selection is really good as well!

Cons

Oh where do I begin? First of all, management starts "selling you the dream" from day one about how much money you will make at HPO but then is constantly "adjusting" the pay plan, commission rates and sales goals. The offer letter I received upon being hired was "modified" the first week I was there and modified again two weeks after that! The leads they give you to start with are truly the bottom of the barrel! You will be polishing turds and set up for failure from day one! Oh and here is the great part- because they pay you a draw vs. commission if you work overtime you get to do it for FREE!!!

Pros

The supervisors and agents make the culture at this place. Good solid training for entry level into a career in health insurance sales.

Cons

Highly seasonal and unpredictable. Attrition rate is very high, people stay out of necessity not out of desire. Management lacks vision and planning to retain top performers. Lack of transparency does not promote a good model for supervisors to be able to perform duties. Pay is insufficient to retain top talent, they eventually leave due to lack of stability in pay structure. You can forget bonuses, targets are ridiculously unattainable.
