Pros

Coworkers try their best, but everyone is burned out.

Cons

Lab scientists here are overworked and underpaid, with management expecting miracles despite providing zero support. They push impossible turnaround times, forcing employees to cut corners just to keep up. There’s no respect for work-life balance, and anyone who speaks up is ignored or pushed out. It’s a toxic, draining experience that makes you regret ever taking the job.

A Work in Progress

Pros

Coworkers and team leads are often supportive and friendly. If you can bear through the cons then they will try to work with you here and there. By that I mean you can add 1 star to each rating I provided. They do show their effort in improving as a company, but it's a slow process.

Cons

You probably won't know who your boss is for the first week or so, and they mainly hire contractors to meet the unstable demand for COVID tests. Little room for advancement.

Pros

amazing coworkers (for the most part)

Cons

the supervisors are immature and unprofessional. they nitpick and micromanage while none of them are on the same page, to the point where you’d get a different answer to a question depending on who you ask. they make flimsy excuses when you bring problems to their attention just to get you to shut up. one supervisor in particular had the tendency to be very argumentative and clearly did not like any form of criticism, constructive or otherwise. and HR wonders why people keep their grievances bottled up and end up quitting instead of bringing problems to attention… little to no opportunity for advancement. in my 2 years working there i got maybe 1 puny raise and 1 promotion. they make it sound like there is a direct track from the Lab Assistant position to Lab Tech but it’s a lie to string you along and keep you as a glorified sweat shop worker. incompetent management, decision making is questionable… it’s like watching monkeys throwing poop at the wall to see what sticks. goals are unattainable and keep getting higher, and when you don’t hit their unrealistic goals they ask what YOU are doing wrong, not the other way around. feedback often falls on deaf ears as management insists they know better than those working the floor. they’ll also fire you without notice or without giving a reason. most people find out they’re fired via voicemail or when they show up for their shift and their badge doesn’t work. also, no sick time? at an infectious disease lab? wth??

Pros

Hands on experience with high sample volume that builds speed and confidence. Standard operating procedures are clear and training is structured. Coworkers are friendly and willing to answer questions. Overtime is usually available if you need extra hours.

Cons

Turnover is high so you often cover extra benches. Limited upward mobility unless you already hold advanced credentials.
